Will Goodyear Return?
And if they do, who with?
I've read plenty of reports, some with a hint of truth behind them, that Goodyear do regret leaving F1 and that they do wish to come back in the near future. If they do come back, it will heat the tyre war up even further. But who would opt to change to Goodyear if they did return? McLaren was always the team linked, but they are now completely happy with Michelin, so that would seem unlikely. |

If it's true, it would be best for the Williams team up with Goodyear. I always think that it's best the top 3 teams uses different tyre manufacturers.

I've mentioned McLaren and Goodyear before, and the reason that i always put these two tegether is that (apparently) they were in talks just before McLarens contract with Bridgestone finished, but Goodyear needed an extra year to get ready and Bridgestone would only accept a renewal of 3 years on the contract.

Maybe if Red Bull turns Arrows in an "all american team" Goodyear can return there?

Michelin wanted a long-term contract as well. Only McLaren could be the logical winners in such a move - Williams have a years head start with Michelin that shouldn't be wasted...
I really can't think of any other "top" team who would be able to benefit from such a move...Jordan or BAR maybe, but they aren't going to be around much longer at this rate. |

I'm not sure if Goodyear will return. Commentators seem to come up with cliches such as 'Michelin aren't very good in the wet' or 'The Michelins wear their grooves out'. Why would any tyre manufacturer want to compete in an area where they only get commented on when they fail?
Also, if the FIA want to use tyres as a way of slowing a car down it ain't condusive to a tyre companies marketing campaign. Pirelli, Dunlop, yokohama and co seem to do very well without plunging millions into F1 |
