Derek Tohill 4th in ERC
Congrats to Derek on his fourth place finish in the ERC Championship this year. Great finish in your first but hopefully not your last year with the big fish.

Congratulations Derek! In the events that we attended you certainly never looked out of place, and certainly had your share of bad luck!!
Am I right in thinking that Div 2 is not going to be run next year? Just Div 1, 1a and the Rallycross Cup? |

Indeed a top performance for Derek in his first year!! Got to know him in France this year and followed his progress along the year. Although 4th overall is more than could be expected before the season, he would even have better results if luck (and that gearbox) was on his side the whole season. Absolutely my "rookie of the year".

A great effort, and he has to be applauded for dragging such a vast array of misfits around Europe

The final round of the ERC wasn’t to be for the Rallycross Rebels team. I guess every dog has its day. Everything was looking good on Saturday evening after being fastest in timed practice and winning our first heat. Wet weather arrived on Sunday but that wasn’t a major issue as we lead our second heat comfortably on Sunday until we lost all drive in the transmission.
The team fitted a spare standard gearbox in record time only for third gear to let go in the A final. This happened just as we were climbing up through the pack and having a go at second place. All in all, our pace has been strong this year which in my book is the most important aspect. We have learnt a lot, had lots of fun and can build on our experience. Nobody will realise what’s involved in doing a full ERC from Ireland in a privately run team until they have done it! Without the support of so many friends and sponsors it would never have happened. Our highlights were meeting so many great people, leading 3 A finals, winning in Poland, our first podium in Holland and the pure experience of competing in Holjes, the holy grail of Rallycross. It’ll be nice to see some familiar faces in Ireland and the UK this month. We have had a new input shaft made in central Europe this week. It arrived at the workshop this afternoon; we have rebuilt and fitted the gearbox ready for action this weekend! Never a dull moment… Good luck to everyone this Sunday or in Croft, full of the rack! Below is a very small collection of photos of our season, I wish could share a few more but I don’t think the mod’s would be too happy! http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...ERCSumPor1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...ERCSumPor2.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...ERCSumFra1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...umHungary2.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...RCSumHung1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...umAustrai1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...SumSweden1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...SumNorway1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...umBelgium1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...umHolland1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...CSumCzech1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...SumPoland1.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...SumPoland2.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...SumPoland3.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...umGermany1.jpg |
