Tonto should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
As an entrant who had stumped up the £1000 bottle of wine and completed the form requesting tickets/passes are sent to the office as I knew someone would be there to sign for them, the tickets/passes were sent to home whilst away on hols. Arrive back to think tickets will arrive and by Monday - nothing, so got on the phone, unravelled the mystery but was treated as if I had somehow trousered the tickets and was just trying to blag some more! Eventually got 2 advance car passes valid to 10am only, and 3 tickets, no badges, no mechanics armbands, drivers armbands etc, etc. Couldnt be bothered to chase round trying to find staff to sort it out and just borrowed spares off mates. It all seemed to work like clockwork before they started charging!

It took some work, but here is our report. Hopefully we spotted the correct Russian officer...

ticket distribution was woeful, we had a wild goose chase to find ours, only despatched on Monday, to the wrong address, some passes never arrived, we had to beg and borrow, numerous unreplied correspondense, for all of us, eventually some of our troops gave up and stayed home, what do you expect from volunteers?

Thought the weekend was excellent but had to smile that some of the big name Mini engine tuners seemed to struggle making their strictly controlled engines run for more than a few laps
The only serious fault was the lack of time control on Stirlings birthday celebrations, way over the top, way over the timetable and what the hell were horses doing at a race meeting
With a record attendance again I hope his Lordship does not milk us on the admission next year, for the price of a programme I can go racing for a whole day at other circuits

The organisation seemed to be efficient beyond belief, on their hands and knees in fact at the very last minute to obtain the appearance of one particular car, on agreement all necessary documentation by express post to arrive before I left for the circuit Wednesday lunchtime. Would appear that all administration was managed in one day.

Some of the dealy was caused by the retrieval of broken down cars/bikes from the circuit. The circuit is then checked to make sure it is safe i.e. tyre walls in place, no oil trail etc. If I was in the next race to go o ut I would hope this had not been skimped.

Sir Stirling's birthday parade could have run for 1 lap instead of 2 and did the great mam really race a Renault Dauphonoise and a Berkeley?
I felt for poor Peter Hardman - after a fantastic battle with the Newey E Type (ish) to dnf whilst leadinf and so close to the end - it would have been so sweet given the Leventis car was a distant 4th... I hope he has more luck on Saturday in the 6 hour sharing his old sparring partner James Shead's Cobra

Not the only instance Simon, any race car included built after Stirling's accident is very doubtfull, just 80 cars for each year of his life; that expanded into 84!

based next to the 'track' records stall I was blessed with good music all day Friday and most of it Sat/Sun . . . although as it got busy the DJ did 'commercialise' somewhat, some quality northern soul and 60's tunes though

Stationed at the far side of the circuit we explained to the public that the discordant singing was actually caused by distortion in the PA!

Brings to mind "he who pays the piper calls the tune". All part of Goodwood's character.

Maybe Kathryn Jenkins could appear next year?

On the Lavant Bank there was great amusement at the gunshot immediately following the rendition of Rule Britania, together with cries of "Thank God - they've shot her!"

Unless LM is tone deaf he must be aware of his sister's shortcomings as a solo singer, however she is rated as an actress. Maybe we should accept this in the spirit of a friend of Stirling Moss singing for him. And no I do not have an eligible car for 2010 - YET?

Apart from the usual Marcus Pye report on the event, Autosport also features a full double spread photo of Nick Mason in LM21 and Patrick Blakeney-Edwards in the FN, with Patrick, on opposite lock. The photo, by Jeff Bloxham, is across pages 8 & 9, and practically worth the £3 price of the Mag, on it's own!

Blakeney Edwards was almost on permanent opposite lock. The Frazer Nash has a slight tendency to oversteer
I also caught Joshua Beebee after he had almost lost it...

It also possible to have the FN go straight, but then you have to obviously stay away from the steering wheel.....

It was a great weekend, I couldn´t care less if somebody was out of tune !!
I had huge fun with the MATRA club members, who took care of my MATRA Djet.
Thanks to Roy and Titus.

We had some troubles with it. On friday the rotorarm fractured. That halted my timing to 2½ lap, but I had a fine wiev of all the others coming around.
Saturday we had 4-5 fairly troublefree laps, then it began a missfire, it wouldn´t response proper when I put the pedal down, and on lap 7 I pulled in.
The problem was appearently that we had run with too hot plugs.

But I learned about the car, this weekend. I was amasing how many people came to the paddock and knew something about it.

Thank you all for such a great weekend at Goodwood.

With ING parting company with Renault; Should his Worshipfullness hot foot it in their direction for sponsorship? After all if successfull, with what they paid Renault, no need to ask for a donation next year
