Alfa 156 2.0 or 2.5
I'm currently deciding whether to get the 2.0 4cylinder or the 2.5 V6 Alfa 156.
Any thoughts on either car. I've heard the 2.0l is a better handling, drivers car than the V6 due to the lighter engine and revy nature of the engine. But then again the V6 sound really appeals to me after a Fiat Punto 1.2 16v which was my first car. Would like to hear your views on the car. Last edited by JAG; 28 Jun 2003 at 22:33. |

I'd take neither, I'd take the 2.4 liter JTD. Yes, it's a diesel, but hey, it has 5 Nm more torque than the GTA.

you can on the torque just change the gear both are good ... but the V6 doesnt have such a good fuel consumption ... but the power is very good ..... speaking of the 2.4 JTD 16v.. it could be an option .. if is the new 175 BHP one : even the 1.9 JTD 140 BHP .... but i would chose the V6 ..

On the other hand, where (German autobahns excluded) you really need lots of horsepower and higher top speed?

maybe at Brands Hatch ... or Donington Park
the Diesel is also heavy on the front ... and the V6 can go to 7500 RPM |

You need to speak to my good friend up here in the north. He's the sales manager at an Alfa dealer near Manchester.
Are you buying new? If so, wait 'til the 20v 2.4 JTD comes out in September. It's quicker and torquier than any of the petrol engines except the GTA. If you're anti diesel and/or looking at recent used (2002MY), although the V6 sounds great I'd go for the 2.0 JTS - 165bhp is just about right, it's nice and revvy, and handling is superb, and it'll do 30+ mpg. If you're looking at older 156's, I think I'd go for the V6, though actually I'd just avoid them. PM me if you want to discuss a new/nearly new deal with my mate - if you live in the expensive south, he'll be able to better any deal your local dealer can offer... |

It's gotta be the2.5 V6. Sure the steerings not pin sharp due to the weight but it goes like off a shovel. I road tested one not long ago and it was a stonka. Dont touch the oil burner unless u want it for mini cabbing Its a good motor but its the shame of it innit Wot next the Ferrari Enzo estate!
Better still save your pennies and go for the 3.2 V6 GTA Top chariot. Mind u if it was me I'd go for the Beemer 320i Sport. Wotever u choose enjoy! PS can u lend me a fiver Last edited by Bluebottle; 3 Jul 2003 at 18:53. |

Yes, go for the V6. The twin spark is a lively engine but the V6 is one of the greatest volume produced engines of all time and also sounds wonderful.
