Aussie Win at Le Mans 24 hour

I know this is the wrong forum section, but I think we should all be aware of an Aussie being part of the driving crew that won the Le Mans 24 hour.

Congratulations to David Brabham.

See this link for additional information.

Was great to have the coverage on one this year, but there seems to be pretty much no coverage of it at all in the news. Brabs deserves some fame, hes been an absolutely cracking driver in the ALMS for years, too.

It was on nine news this morning, might be on tonight, it was very brief though. Its fantastic, especially after his brother Geoff won in 1993 with..............Peugeot in a 905!! He's taken class wins at Le Mans before but not the outright so good on him. Way to go Brabs!!

Well done to Brabs and well done to Channel 10 - like they kept saying, this is the first time the Le Mans 24 Hours has been seen in this country in 25 years.

I doubt it will be on the news, only those wholesome ball sport player role models get on the sports news in this country.

even V8's hardly make a mention which are Australia's top category, so this won't but as you say Brabs certainly deserves the attention. he has been great to many categories of motorsport not to mention he is part of one of Australia's most famous motorsport families.

I keep saying if you want to be taken seriously in this country as a sport your participants need to start brawling in nightclubs, assaulting and or cheating on their wives or partake in gang bangs.

Hat's off to the Channel 7 news though, they actually mentioned the race for about 4 seconds at the end of their sports segment.

I'm worried that Marc Gene will go back to his day job and try to talk Ferrari F1 team into using (cough/spit) diesel power!

Congrats to Brabham. And to the 'international commentary team' - I'd rather listen to paint dry than their monotone dribble. Has to be the worst commentary team I have ever heard (well, apart from Leigh Diffey that is)

Exellent result well deserved. Now if only the Australian media would realise what a great achievment it was by a great aussie driver then they might even report on it.

lucky bugger would have loved to have been over there to witness Brabs victory.

they showed it from 10:30pm (race started 11:00pm AEST) Saturday - 3:00am Sunday, 3:30am - 4:30am, 6:30am - 7:30am, 6:55pm - 8:30pm, 9:00pm - 11:10pm.

i though it was good coverage and i hope they continue it next year and get a few more of these big races on.

I think Eurosport covered the full 24 up here, although Brabs has been here so long we count him as British now!

A well deserved win for someone who's been well regarded as one of the best sportscar drivers of his generation. And a top bloke too.

He is Brittish, he was born and bred in the UK. Though his father is obviously the most iconic Australian motor racer ever.
We like to claim any one who has a connection as our own, including the Bee Gee's and all of New Zealand
Strange thing is neither Australia or New Zealand want to be responsible for Russell Crowe

He would have been fairly young when the family moved back to Australia after Sir Jack retired from F1, so raised in both countries.

Congrats to OneHD for showing Le Mans - great stuff & more please.

Brabham's professional racing career began in Australia in 1983, racing karts for two years, after which he moved into the Ford Laser "one make" series for 1985. In 1986 he switched to Formula Ford 1600 and subsequently to Australian Formula 2, winning the 1987 Australian Drivers' Championship in that category. He also competed in the New Zealand Formula Atlantic series, the American Formula Atlantic series and in the South American Formula 3 Championship during the 1987 season.[1] A move from Australia to Europe under sponsorship from Camel in 1989 saw him joining the Bowman team and winning the British Formula Three Championship."

as soon as he gave up soccer for real footy he became one of us!

We don't see a foreign accent as being a bar to being British - Greg Rusedski, Graham Hick, Mike Catt, Ricky Flutey to name a few. I'll agree to share him with you!

There's a nice four page interview with Brabs after Le Mans in this week's Auto Action mag. Amongst other things he says that he is proud of his Aussie heritage but considers himself a citizen of the world, he's even got a globe on his racesuit where the flag should be.
