The top two drivers in the series, the Senna/Prost of current touring car racing, well, V8 Supercar anyway.
Stats don't lie. Interestingly both have had periods of extremely lean results due to team problems. Wouldn't really like to say who is BETTER. They're just different but exceptionally good nonetheless. |

Please don't try to start fights on here for the sake of it, it is very childish.

Skaife - 5 Titles
Lowndes - 3 "Stats don't lie..." Bulldust, sorry. Stats also don't take the car advantage into account, do they? 1998-2000 seasons, when they had the same equipment together, the Races/wins ratio would be the best comparison - then again, how about retirements caused by external factors? Near impossible to gauge on results. I'm with you, 00XR8. |

This would have to be the 1000th time this thread (or something similar) has been put up.
To get an honest answer you really should only take the period they drove together at HRT. Identical cars!!!. During this period as I've said numerous times, team orders came into play. They both often started on the front row. My observations during this time.........straight from Network 10 telecasts and watching it live, show that when Skaife was leading, Lowndes was all over is bumper but wasn't allowed to pass. But, when Lowndes was leading, Lowndes dissappeared into the distance. That along with the fact that Lowndes won the championship in 98 and 99 and would "most likely have" won in 2000 if not for the engine blow up whilst leading the double points R2 Adelaide.......which handed the Race to Skaife. And why did he leave HRT, well would you be happy with $150k less then your teammate when your kicking his ass???? Both great drivers no doubt about it.......would have been interesting to see them teamed up during 01 and 02 where Skaife no doubt was at his peak. In a nutshell........it seems clear that Lowndes was better whilst they were teamed up, but now, well it's hard to say when you have different machinery. But back to the question as to who's the most successfull, well Skaife surely is (SADLY): 5 championships. 4 Bathurst wins etc etc etc. |

Lowndesfan...Talk to your idol...they were not identical cars...
Craig888 What would you like the stats to tell you...because that is how stats work...ask the right question and the stats will always support you! Unbiased stats are very rare. Senna05, you can build into stats any variable you like...including perceived vehicle advantage etc...obviously the primitive stats presented here don't do that. I'm with 00XR8 on this one. |

Despite not being a particular fan of Skaife the person you you have to acknowledge his results and his ability to be BLOODY quick. I think he is by far the best in car camera driver to watch aggresive, intense he portrays exactly what he is, a racer.
Lowndes on the other hand portrays the same image behind the wheel as Brock, relaxed, in control and enjoying himself. Too hard to compare, both are champions, I consider they have fairly equal abilities, but if you asked me to back them in a rent a car race, no rules and no team orders it would be Lowndes for mine. |

I think Amaroo has hit the nail on the head. The only way to truly judge who was the better would be to put them in a rent a car and see who was the fastest. Along those lines, maybe something like the race of champions ( i think that is what it's called) where the drivers compete in a couple of different cars, on a super stage like a rally course.

Hence I said that we should only take the results of when they drove together at HRT.

And from the original post, are we talking round wins or race wins? It seems the arguments are based around race wins and championships, when consistency counts for more in championships than race wins. The fact is Lowdnes jumped from a winning team in a gamble to look like a hero that has never even looked like paying off. Skaife came to HRT at the start of it's upswing, and has reaped the benefits. Isn't one of the marks of a good driver being in the right place at the right time? |

Yeah bring on Oran Park so we can talk about last lap blunders, technical infringements, the FPR Engines, where Brights going, Ellery's crash and how Dumbrell managed to cause another accident....... come on everything discussed is old, tired and overdone..... but isnt it fun. Skaife V Lowndes, Brock V Moffat who cares lets analyse it again new answers might be found

Lowndes was still going to beat Skaife in that race and don't forget that Skaife had an extra round then Lowndes to get some points. Skaife blew it by "his mistake" in the 99 QLD500. |

all I know about 99 is Craig led the Championship from race 1 round 1 and never lost the lead. Mark had 4 extra races to Craig in that season, and coming into the Calder round Craig had finished in the top 3 20 times in the 23 races held for the year so far. If he had of lost 99 it would have been robbery
