Reutemann tries Ferrari F2004 at Fiorano.
Ex- Ferrari and Williams driver, Carlos Reutemann had a run out in a Ferrari F2004 at Fiorano. His last Grand Prix season was 1982 driving for Williams as team mate to Keke Rosberg. The notoriously moody Carlos quit after the 2nd race (Brazil) and was replaced by Andretti for the US GP, then by Derek Daly for the remainder of the '82 season.
He last drove a Ferrari in 1978. Of his run today: "It was an unforgettable experience," commented Reutemann. "I want to thank Ferrari for having organized this test in a holiday day and for giving me the chance to experience this. I had a lot of fun. The car is very impressive, especially the engine power of the car." http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=71378 Pics: http://www.f1racing.net/en/gallery.php?catID=1514 Last edited by Super Tourer; 8 Dec 2004 at 18:36. |

I remember he had a run on the Sunday morning of the 1995 Argentian Grand Prix in a 1994 Ferrari, so he has actually driven a Ferrari since 1978!

I thought he retired because he was driving for a Britsh team and Argentina had or was just about to invade the Falklands Islands. He also had thoughts on becoming a
potitician, which he eventually did. |

Why did he retire?
I know he considered jacking it in after his las vegas 1981 performance, which cost him the title. But he finished after round 2 in 1982 (Brazil i think).......why? |

It was never clearly stated why he called it quits in early 82, but it was pretty easy to surmise it had to do with the Falklands Invasion.

When he drove the Ferrari in '95, didn't he set a time that would have put him about 6th on the grid the previous year?

I remember too that the Lole had an opportunity to return at mid-1982 when Ferrari offered him a seat after Villeneuve's tragic accident, but Reutemann refused the offer. About politics, yes, he's actually a senator of his home province of Santa Fe, and since 1991 he alternate the roles of Governor and Senator of that province always with the Partido Justicialista (Peronists). Last year he had a great problem because the main city of Santa Fe (Santa Fe city) suffered from a dramatic flood, and his administration damaged its image because they didn't do enough to solve this problem (and was discovered that they didn't do enough to prevent the flood!). But at last is great to see the Lole again in the F1 world, and most with a Ferrari. I wonder if he still has influences to help one of his fellow countrymen to have a seat in F1, specially one who has a testing role in Renault. |
