It's an introduction of the 2010 race, the number of 51 is referring to the numbers of starters in 2009.

So, 60 or something cars can start, the regs allow it, there is more than enough pitspace and the last couple of years' races have shown that the track can cope with large numbers (the same cannot be said by the powersuppliers though...).

Considering that the page quotes times from 2009, the number 51 seems to come from the fact that there were 51 cars on the grid in 2009.

Yes agreed, my mistake, when I clicked on "results" it says that "Results will be available right after the race" which is where I thought it was all for 2011.

Still it is true that there is a limit on starters and it could be the race is over subscribed and some will not qualify.

Truly amazing if we get over 60 cars at Spa. There's no GT3 fill ins like in ALMS nor too many FLM cars, so basically, it's a truck load of fully invested mainstream class cars.

I'd say we'll get to see 55-60 cars for Spa this year, if you combine the entrylists of LMS and ILMC and skip the doublures (Rebellion for instance), add an Audi or two (actually one Audi and one Pug ), we're gonna get close to 60! That's gotta be a modern Le Mans Series record, the highest number of starters at Spa is 51 (2009 & 2007). We could - just by coincidence - end up with the same number of starters as Sebring this year!

Damn. I like using the 'old' pits as Pitlane Access. If they're all filled, what do I do?

60 cars at Spa is making my birthday weekend get better and better!

The number of cars allowed is defined by FIA's circuit grade, race length and race car category.

A long race for slow cars in a high grade track means lots of cars can run. A short race for fast cars in a low grade track means a small field.

Anyway for LMP cars minimum circuit requirement is grade 2.

For those planning a late trip back on Sunday night, best consider rescheduling your crossing, unless you fancy a leisurely day in Belgium? Just had an email through from the ACO to say that the race will now be on Saturday. The full schedule for the Spa 1000 Kms will be published shortly, but the email states:

The 1000Km of Spa race (which will be a 6 hour race) will be held on Thursday 5th, Friday 6th, and Saturday 7th May.

Therefore the Spa race will be held on Saturday (from 2.05pm until 20h05)

No explanation given.

My maths isn't too good, but I think sunset will be around 8:30 in Belgium by then, so yes, fading light and every probability of heavy cloud and the threat of rain!

No, just checked. Sunset at nine-fifteen, so we should be OK for a daylight finish

Thanks for the heads up on this - I'm just about to book my flights for this
What is the expected spectator attendance number for this, I'm guessing 20k-30k?
(Last time I was at Spa was '98 for F1, a great day to be a Jordan fan back then.)

Hardly noticable, I'd say your guess is probably spot on!

Too bad, I don't mind bringing the race forward a day but at least they could have made them run until it's truly dark. A 4 pm start would have been nice!

According to Racingsportscars.com, the attendance in 2009 was roughly about 30 000... which was ~five thousand less than a year earlier. Don't know the figures for last year, but they were probably in the same area.

8PM finish doesn't sound too bad, even if twilight is right beyond the corner. Such beautiful place for spring race.

Just checked on the spa website and it still indicates 6th, 7th and 8th, as hotel and travel already booked I would prefer they don't change things this late

Don't read anything into it. The webstes of Spa, LMS or ACO are not up to date until there will be an offical announcement...

I dont see the point in changing it myself, its not like any one attending the F1 is going to be making the trip to spa on the Saturday to watch the LMS and the TV coverage of the LMS is non exsistant so its not like there going to loose any viewers there either.

It's just an inconvenience for those who have already booked there trips.
