Far Too Many
Luckily we do not get too many deaths in motor sport these days, but in my youth they were commonplace and I still remember so many of those who lost their lives.
Each year at the Goodwood Revival I spare a thought for Mike Keen who died there in 1955. Mike was as nice a person you could hope to meet and always had time for a group of sweaty fans who had cycled to a race meeting. Mike Hawthorn, I was physically sick when I heard of his death and I was off work for three days. Jean Behra, Peter Collins, Luigi Musso. Fon De Portago, Ian Raby, Ivoe Bueb, Pedro Rodriguez, Don Beauman. The list goes on and still hurts today, but they loved what they were doing and we loved them for it, so no regrets but never forget. |
