Kubica is BMW's 3rd driver

Polish WSxR champ signs for Sauber-BMW and will drive the team's 3rd car in the Friday practice session. I'm not really a follower of the Renault series so don't really know how good the opposition was - anyone care to comment?

I suspect this means Wurz knocked it back to stay at McLaren

I think the WSR is a very strong series with high-level competition in 2005. Kubica's seat in F1 is a great achievement for the championship.

You would think there are several available GP2 driver sthey could have pursued first however? Especially considering that they are likely to have an avialable set for 2005, is Kubica really likely to be ready?

Kubica really deserves this in my opinion. He's a very talented driver and I'm happy he got so far considering the fact that he had a limited budget.

Nice to see a new country represented in Formula 1, especially as he seems to be a promising driver.

I think Kubica deserves this. The WSR probably stands behind GP2 in overall quality, but he still did the job and won it before the last race.

Yeah interesting choice by Beeem?

On the one hand i think Robert's very good, but i would've thought he'd had a crack at GP2 next year with a few F1 tests on the side.

He's certainly young enough to learn more and add to his growing reputation - which i'm sure he'll do with the sort of people on the engineering team at Sauber and all the BMW engine boffins..

Add all that to his speed and he might just get a shout at a race seat the following year.

It's a great opportunity for him as he's said himself.

I'm happy his name is Robert Kubica, not, for example, Krzysztof Szczepanski.

Perhaps one of our Polish members can tell us how many points the Z is worth in their version of Scrabble?

And why not to "traduce" these names? Both Polish and Ukrainians have problems with our surnames, they ever are deformed by those that didn't know well our languages.
For example, it could be more interesting to know that the name of Polish driver Jaroslaw Wierczuk might be spelled "Iaroslav Virchuk".

I know Robert since when he started with car racing: I saw him"very close" in F Renault and again this last season in WS; his talent is amazing to me better than Raikkonen.
His limit used to be as we say in italian to be "square head"......that means not very
flexible mind but passing the seasons and the difficulties he improved this point of view
impressively. He just need to be patient because F1 is a very different environment to all the rest of motorsport: his moment to drive the car in a race will come (it was not the usual comment when he drove the R25 he really impressed everybody).
