There's the Plum Pudding meeting at Mallory Park on boxing day but apart from that, thought about rally marshalling? I can recommend the Rockingham Stages (usually mid december) as it's circuit based, so not a big step from race marshalling.

You may want to look into the Brands Hatch Stages (Jan 22nd 2012).

Funnily enough the vast majority of our circuit racing on 2 or 4 wheels is done from Autumn to Spring and we tend to do bugger all in the height of Summer.

Summer is when Speedway and Drag Racing is held as they're weather dependant (wet track = no racing) and only have short races. In most parts of Australia it gets way to hot in Summer for longer races or running the risk of marshals dropping like flies from the heat exposure, trust me it's not a lot of fun standing in fire proofs in the summer heat all day.

Even Speedway and Drag Racing do the bulk of thier racing in the late afternoon and evening.

what you need to do is invent a super cooled marshals hut, all problems solved

Or get one of those cooling vests that the F1 drivers wear, obviously in slightly bigger sizes, bright orange and completely free

If you fancy trying some of the different disciplines / events out there, a few training days are starting to appear on http://www.volunteersinmotorsport.co.uk/index.html - just click on training tab at the bottom of the page. Plenty of Rally stuff there already.

RaceSafe (bike) training days need to be signed up for by registering / joining now.
