V8's on bigpond
Now that channel 7 get the rights to the V8's,will we still have them on the bigpond broadband and will we still bet the panelbeaters as well?.

As far as I am aware, the Bigpond contract (up for renewal this year I think) is totally seperate from the Channel 7 TV contract.

I imagine so, the V8's are sponsored by BigPond, not Channel 10. Maybe the V8's will begin an alliance with Yahoo!, because 7 is linked with them too.

I don't know. Qualifying coverage is great but the race with in car cameras only is stupid and a waste of time.
I have to go to work at 1:45pm so I will have to tape most of the race and watch all or most of it later on Sunday night or Monday afternoon at 4:30pm or 5:00pm after TAFE. Dose Bigpond still have in car cameras only for races? If they don't I will watch most all or most of the race live on Bigpond. Last edited by mabs_nsx; 2 Sep 2006 at 01:55. |

Speaking of Bigponds V8 broadcast, did anyone see the Access all areas of DJR's workshop? If anyone did, do you know the name where it is like a cockpit simulator but with weights to train the neck, leg and arm muscels? It was originaly designed by Ferrari F1 for Schuey.

IIRC, the Channel 7 agreement requires V8SA to capture and produce footage, which 7 will then air (production costs picked up by V8SA).
So if V8SA are the producer of the footage, then assigning footage to Bigpond 9or other net rights holder) shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure that for the internet rights $$$ amount V8SA are seeking, footage would have to be included. |

TC on last weeks' Panelbeaters review show categorically stated that V8's will be on BP next year. He said they have an agreement in place and announcement to be made shortly.

So if Crompton goes to 7 and Rusty stays with 10, will we see Rusty? Is his deal with BigPond in conjunction with Channel 10? Or is it separate?

Lets just HOPE AND PRAY that Bigpond get NOTHING ...
How ridiculous to shut out every other internet provider but one ... get some sense VESA, even if it is a user-subscribe system. I thought also that 7 digital would show the events as the "Bigpond" substitute ... in fact, there was talk that they would go up against 10's football coverage with the digital channel. |

I'm happy to pay a subscription to VESA (say, $100 per annum?) ... but lets see what 7 has to offer first. BTW, still confident about Bathurst Peck? |

Deeks, I'm only paying $37/month for unlimted Broadband on Big Pond and the V8s are the only reason I changed over from another ISP.

I'd be willing to pay for a V8 Supercar online thing like BigPond, hell I'd subscribe to BigPond if they had an unlimited broadband deal. Which they unfortunately don't.

VESA need to rethink this ... I am not alone, I'm sure. Here's a comparison - when the racing industry had their argument with Sky and TVN, Foxtel was offering subscribers to get TVN for just $12 per annum. They got something like 200,000 subscribers - thats a cool $2.4 MILL jumping in coz punters want to see their money getting beat. By my (conservative) estimates there are at least 250,000 hard core V8SC / motor racing fans in Australia and lets say another 2-300,000 "casual" somewhat interested observers. Lets also say that 50% of those have internet connections. Now, lets price it to attract maximum take-up ... say $50 per annum and say that half the V8SC hard-cores take it up and 10% of the non-hard-cores take it up (of those that have internet. Lets add another 5% who might have access on their phone and take it up. The numbers: 250,000 x 50% x 50% = 62,500 250,000 x 50% x 10% = 12,500 500,000 x 50% x 5% = 12,500 Total 87,500 x $50 = $4, 375, 000 HOW MUCH is BIGPOND worth to V8SC ??? Not anywhere remotely near $4.4 MILL I'd suspect ... Now, I reckon I'm being conservative but lets say I'm overestimating it by DOUBLE - thats still $2.2 million bucks - still more than Bigpond is worth to VESA. AND ... I havent even considered the overseas market - I suspect that there arfe at least several thousand potential subscribers who would take it up (and expats). I, for instance (and again I don't think I'm alone here) would pay to subscribe to Speed Channel if I could get it - I cannot - and I would pay a decent fee to get it. There is a big picture here and there are plenty of high ranking folks who are simply NOT seeing it. How about doing a deal with Speed Channel, have an agreement with NASCAR ... anything but the pathetic way they are doing it now. Bigpond is an out-and-out SWINDLE both in terms of what its worth and its services. DROP THEM. Tender the services supplied and get rid of the exclusivity of use - it is denying many potential markets. |

I pay $90 a month ($99.95 - 10% discount) for 1500kbps *unlimited downloads. *they say that the sevice may be throttled back to 56kbps if you exceed 10Gb downloads but I can't remember the last time I didn't exceed 10Gb. I have never had the service slowed down, even after 25Gb+ downloads. |

My bad. I assumed you were talking ADSL not cable.
However the plan you quote is NOT ONLY 256kbps it is 8Mbps which is super, super, super fast!!! The /256kbps is the upload speed not the download speed. |
