BrendanM should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Towing Eye

Hiya

now that we all (UK MSA chaps) need 60mm (minimum diameter) towing eyes has anyone found an appropriate source for eye bolts / swivel eye bolts or similar ? The ones I have found are large (and expensive) as they are for the lifting (containers and the like) industry.

I see there is a nice OMP one here

http://www.gprdirect.com/OnlineShop/...e?c=250&g=1185

but it is too small

Im going to try and fit with the front and rear bumpers on the MGB so they stay inside the body line (as required) but dont look a mess.

Happy Holidays
Happy Racing
Happy 2009

I don't know the specific MSA regulations but in the past I've seen cars with a loop of fabric webbing. This seems like a neat and simple solution to me and it has the added benefit of potentially not getting damaged/distorted in an impact.

I have those fitted to my "B",very good alternative to metal rings, light and adjustable and no problem with scrutineers, plus of course for the FIA events the specified size is 80>100mm.

Copperbottom has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I've just checked the 2009 regs and they only say that substantial towing eyes should be fitted. Where has 60mm come from?

It is in the 2009 Blue Book - G99; bottom of p276. I have copied below

There should be substantial towing eyes securely
fixed to the main structure of the vehicle, front and rear,
within the confines of the body to enable the vehicle to
be moved. Cars of periods A to F and single seater
racing cars are exempt from this requirement subject to
a suitable towing point being clearly identified. Towing
eyes should have a minimum internal diameter of
60mm. Towing eyes/towing points should be painted a
contrasting bright colour (dayglo red, orange or yellow).

So if my car was dayglo yellow, a black towing eye would be "contrasting"!! Tee hee hee.

I see that the FIA want 80 to 100mm "eyes", what the hell are they using to tow with? Ship's anchor rope? Or are they supplying the marshal's with gloves bought from a "redundant stock" sale at the old BBC It's a Knockout costume shop?

They would need Stuart Hall to commentate on every race meeting

"Oh, and here come the marshals. Oh and they've all fallen down in the gravel trap! <riot of laughter> And now he's trying to get the rope attached with those big foam hands. Oh! And here comes the custard pies"
