PR: Seven Network and TOCA Terminate Broadcast Agreement

The 2001/2 Australian Super Touring Championship will not be broadcast by the Seven Network or its pay television subsidiary C7, following the termination of the broadcast agreement with TOCA Australia today.

Seven televised the Championship in 2000.

Seven's Director of Sport and Olympics Mr Harold Anderson said "The broadcast environment has changed considerably, as has the domestic Motorsport market, since Seven first televised the Super Tourers in the 1997 Bathurst 1000. These changes have prompted a review of our Motorsports line-up."

"TOCA is disappointed that this decision has been made. A great deal has changed both for TOCA and Seven since the first time that we worked with them back in 1997. Reluctantly we must accept the position that Seven has put forward and move on as best we can." said TOCA Chief Executive Kelvin O'Rielly.

Ends.

No further statements will be provided.

Yeeouch...that's gotta hurt!

Anyone else hear the doomsday whistle? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't TOCA pay very good money for their piece of air time...so is this really a move by channel 7?

I would hypothesise that this was pre-empted by TOCA relinquishing control of ST's
