Aptly named print!
I have not posted this painting / print here before but think I should due to the print title!
'Ten-Tenth's' was painted in 1989 for Nigel Mansell and depicts his stunning move to pass Senna in the '89 Hungarian GP while lapping Johansson's Onyx. Nigel won from 12th on the grid, driving at his usual 10/10ths! The original was 30 x 20ins and now hangs in his Woodbury golf complex. An example of my early work and one that sold very well print wise, especially with NM's signature. Interesting to note how my style has 'tightened up' over the years yet still creating the illusion of speed. Comments as ever appreciated. |

I remember that one. whilst I'm not a fan of Mansell, Senna and Johannsson (and Onyx) were my favourites back then.

Great picture of a good moment. Terrific AK.
But I always thought that Mansell's greatest success was to go over to the US and win the CART championship straight off. I'm not a fan of NM either but it was perhaps THE greatest effort of my generation. |

Yes, going over to CART and winning straight off was pretty special wasn't it? The story we don't often hear is how many people over in the US made a good living from it! I know many vendors who sell prints, tee shirts, models, caps and the like. Mansell as F1 Champion going over there and making CART big news worldwide did wonders for their trade.
These days with the on going 'war' in US single seater racing and no major star players that the US public recognise ( the ones they know are retiring! ) does nothing to capture the public's imagination. Now if Schumi was to move across or JV were to go back, I think it would be a very different story. Unlikely though, especially MS of course. |

Maybe with Ecclestone with a foot in each camp, that may change. That would be a step forward.

Yes they did, but not mine. They were published around 1993/94 and printed on card at a slightly smaller size than the magazine page size of contemporary F1 subjects. I particularly remember a Schumacher Benetton one and a Hakkinen in the Marlboro McLaren. Can't remember who painted them though as so many new artists sprang onto the scene at this time with adverts in the various magazines, but few of them seem to be around now. However some sensational artists have arrived since such as Ferrigno and De La Maria.
