I thought the Polariser was fitted to VL's, not VK's?

Polariser was fitted to race cars before road cars, and has been mentioned in the so-called provenance of this vehicle.

The John Harvey biography covers the ins and outs of all of this for those interested in more details.

Who was at Wanneroo in the 70s?

G,day everybody. I think I may have found Bill Nitschke's L34, but after spending hours going through Terry Walkers race results I have a couple of questions. Was there both a Bill and a Bob Nitschke or was one name a pseudonym so he could race two classes, or maybe keep his insurance company off his back? They were licenced cars in the Street Car class afterall. Were there two L34s? The white car, (No.3) first appeared 14th sept 75, and it was in its second outing with Bob driving on the 23rd Nov 75 that it had its famous rollover ending up on top of the fence. Looking at the photos, I would have thought that it was a write off, however Greame Hooley says that this car did spend a long while in the panel beaters. He doesn't know if it was repaired or rebodied.

The next time either Nitschke shows up is Bill for the 300 kay race on 2nd May 76. This result is from Auto Action and unfortunately doesn't include a car number.

Then on 11th July 76 Bob Nitschke drove a car owned by A. Page.

Then on 17th Oct 76, according to the race results we have
Bill and Bob driving on the same day. Bill in number 31 (Street Cars) and Bob in Number 3.(Sports Sedans)
So perhaps he owned two at the same time. I wonder if he is still around?
Number 31.

The next entry is for Bob on the 12th June 77 in Number 3, so they certainly weren't regular racers.
The car, (or one of the cars) was sold to Paul De Laney.
The first entry for Paul De Laney is 16th July 1978 in Number 8.

This is the car in the 90s.

So I guess what I am asking, is were there two Nitschke's and did they have two L34s?

Interesting story in the ad about input from Mr Brock in the car’s development. The Sierras were gone from Advantage in early 1991... when PB switched to Perkins power.

Maybe the owner bought stuff from Advantage, entitling them ( in their opinion) to call the car as having been ‘Brocked’

IMHO that'd be Paul DeLacey, more remembered for his Sprintcar career - was crayfishing in those days.
Got any speedway contacts, Paul didnt just make up the numbers.

Have you checked Historic Sports Sedans on Facebook (not my go but I understand a Nitschke from SA posts & I recall the sports sedan was SA based).

Bill Nitschke shared a XU-1 at Bathurst 74 with John Lewis, try this:

Good luck ... keep us informed how you go.

How about this Lakis Manticas Mazda RX3 being auctioned at Shannons next Monday? With a documented re-shell, would it be eligible to run in the historic Group C series?

Just a bit of an update to this........ The current owner of one of the Nitschke cars has had Paul DeLacey sight the car and confirm that it was his. Peter Finch also gave up a lot of info on the car.

Another couple that I have come across.

The Charlie O'Brien L34 has been sitting in a shed in Melbourne for years, but has recently been moved for a restoration so it can take its place at the L34 show at Phillip Island during the 2021 historic meeting in March.

The ex Bob Forbes, ex B&D (Tim Smith / Harvey / Brock / Bond / Morris amongst others) car was last raced at Bathurst in Andronicus Coffee colours and is now a road car that still competes in hillclimbs.

The Ray Kaleda L34 was converted to A9X specs and eventually raced as a sports sedan, but has now been restored and is still owned by the Kaleda family.

One car that I would dearly love to track down is the 2nd Bob Forbes Wynns car. The first one ended up in the lake at Sandown and then sold to Wayne Negus who brought it back to WA and raced it at Claremont speedway. The 2nd Wynns car was the first GMP&A race shell to go down the line at GMH. Bob owned it until at least the Oran Park round in 1977, but I have no idea after that. Is Bob still around????

The Bob Forbes car: this link might help:

Bob is still about, was at Mike Raymonds funeral.
Try MPD Dairy Products in Belrose.

A L34 that raced in WA was Owen Ogilvie - is that about these days?

You mentioned Wayne Negus, any idea where his Commodore went to?

Yeah, it is mostly a mechanical restoration to be done. The whole car is in very good nick though.

Thanks for this.

The car in the link is the later hatchback. I should have mentioned above that the ex B&D car that he bought was leased to Ross Bond for Bathurst 1977 and was painted a similar blue to the hatch in the link you put up. This is why the car now has the A9X floorpan in it. This car was advertised by Bob in Nov 1978, whereas the L34 was advertised in July 1977.

I guess that with its MBL number plates, Owen Ogilvie's car may have been traded in at a wheatbelt dealership somewhere. Maybe Merredin or Wongan Hills.
Maybe the Negus Commodore was the one that Graham Hooley was racing? I know Graham was racing Wayne's A9X hatch, and I have a feeling that the VK had distant HDT connections............but I am only guessing.
