Jesper OH should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Eggenberger was indeed still heavily involved from a engineering/set up perspective. I'm guessing that this was because Eggenberger had prior knowledge of both Brands and Birmingham layouts from Soper's forays in 1988?

I don't know whether the car was bought from Ruedi or simply leased for a few races. Did the car race in the Italian series as well though? Anyone got any more info on this?
From the book "Super Turismo" about the 1990 Italian TCC
Amato Ferrari finished 31st that year, but I can only find traces of him from the opening Monza round in March. From what I can gather from my limited Italian and various translation services on the net, the car is said to be Eggenberger prepared and run by Team Crypton owned by Bello. The Bello would likely be Swiss Luigi Bello who raced a red Eggenberger prepared car in the opening round of the 1989 CIVT. This car was red and here it would be interesting to see pictures of the two cars that might turn out to be one and the same. This sounds as something for the RS500 threat.

Seing the Crypton ownership is contradicting your information, chunterer, but as I said my Italian is dubious at best.

Ruedi Eggenberger must have been a bit restless during 1990. From what I know he raced his own cars in the 24h races at Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps, in charge of the Ferrari car in the two BTCC races and perhaps what else Ferrari might have raced in Italy and then managing the few Allan Moffat late season races in Australia and mayby Fuji.

Laurence Bristow and Graham Goode tangled at the start stopping the race. The restarted race was run over 18 laps – I believe the intended distance was 20.

Stuart Donnan making his BTCC debut in the ex-JQF Engineering RS500. The car is described as converted to running a regular suspension system instead of the JQF active suspension, making the Donnan car the one that JQF finished the 1989 season with.
Donnan had raced the car during some Thunder Saloon races to get enough points to his license in order to race in the BTCC.

Nettan Lindgren, with the Swedish series finished weeks earlier, had invested in a new set of tyres ..that had to last the entire weekend.

John Cleland was leading class B on the last lap, when Frank Sytner tried an outbraking manouvre. It failed and both ended in the guard rail. In the subsequent arguments betwin the two Cleland apparently grabbed the colors of Frank Sytner's driving suit and was fined £250 for un-gentleman behaviour.

No mention of Mahony with his DNA in the Birmingham round?

I am not disputing anything, just wondering you know!

The victory secured Robb Gravett the class A title for 1990.

Jeff Wilson turned up with a newly build Vauxhall Bellmont. Build by Brian Holliday of HWR Racing with help from Andy Barton. Engine by Bruce Stevens of Merlin Developments. Sponsorship from Bristol Street Motors (Sunderland), Auto Coachworks and Valvoline. All this ended with an oil leak and withdrawn.

Jim McGaughay driving the car usually driven by Hugh Chalmers.

Ray Bellm packed up after loosing an engine only to discover the replacement was no good either.

Graham Goode had found a set of 2 year old Yokohama tyres.

From the news
September 6 1990
The Pyramid M3s will race on Yokohama tyres for the rest of the season.

September 13 1990
Ian Flux has been testing the BRR BMW M3

German Markus Oestreich imported from the DTM to drive the second Vauxhall Cavalier. By this point his usual mount was an Irmscher prepared Opel Omega 3.0 24V

Chuck Nicholson returning to the BTCC. His latest previous race was at Oulton Park in early 1987 driving a Chris Hodgetts Corolla.

Since the Donington Park race on September 20 1987 till this race the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth has won every single round of the BTCC – 41 straight victories (42 class victories adding the Graham Goode's success at Donington Park on August 16 1987).

The end of an era - and another one already on it's way.

Seing the Crypton ownership is contradicting your information, chunterer, but as I said my Italian is dubious at best.

Could be Jesper?

I always remembered this Crypton outfit being the same one as the F3000 one, no recollection of any Bello's being involved in the Crypton team of either Luigi or Noel Del varieties!

Could it have been a separate Crypton?

I suspect however, that the order this car follows is: Eggenberger built, Bello owned and Crypton (the same one!) prepared and entered?

Why this car ran for just these 2 races in Britain with Ferrari as a driver when there would have been a host of more experienced RS500 pilots available to do the car justice is also an interesting point I think.

There was a more practical reasoning for Ferrari driving the car than just talent. He needed the extra milage on these circuits - don't know if he had been to either Brands Hatch or Birmingham before - and he hadn't driven competitively for four months.

A look at the Birmingham preview in Autosport August 23 has a presentation of all the F3000 teams with team principal and location. In the case of Cryptyn Engineering it is Patrizio Cantu as you said and the team being based in Como, Italy.

One fantastic thing that I remember from this race was the reaction of all other team members to Nettan Lingren winning class B.
It was all totally spontaneous, as she drove down the pit lane at the end of the race, everybody stopped what they were doing and applauded her as she drove past!

IIRC, both Wilson and McGaughay came from similar racing backgrounds- Special Saloons/GTs and sportscars (in fact they shared a car in Thundersports at one point).

Jeff Wilson and Brian Holliday were (and apparently still are) business partners in HWR Racing.
(HWR=Holliday Wilson Racing presumably? http://www.hwrmotorsport.co.uk/aboutus/ )

Wilson had previously raced some pretty fearsome machines, including his V8-powered VW Beetle and even more monstrous BMW M1...

McGaughay is probably best-known for his highly-successful Lancia 037 clone, based on an F2 Toleman chassis
http://www.lanciabetamontecarlo.nl/racing.html
and later in Thundersports, in a variety of cars including the ex-Group C Grid-Cosworth, the 2-litre Grange-Hart (shared with Wilson) and a Tiga-BMW

The 'FES' listed as an additional sponsor for the McGaughay M3 was his longtime sponsor Forth Electrical Services, an electrical and building services contractor, based in Stirling. http://www.fes.ltd.uk/

I recall that Ferrari wanted to enter into F3000 in 1991 and he/the team wanted to acclimatise himself around different circuits used in F3000.

Sadly the 1990 BSP race wouldn't achieve anything much for Amato Ferrari as it wasn't in the F3000 calender in 1991!

Amato Ferrari running the AF Corse team now, correct?

Yes he does. In fact I think he made the switch from driver to team owner and part owner not too many years later.

A few updates from old paper notes tranferred to pc - with all the danger of in-accurasy and false transcripts. No Autosport for that round, sorry.

Seing that Frank Sytner was beaten by young teammate Kelvin Burt, I wonder if the thought of "Oh no, not again!" wondered through his head.

Just tripped over something interesting- Don't know how long they've been doing this, but the BRDC have a photo print sales website-
http://www.brdcprints.co.uk/index.php

Looking at this, they currently list photos of a fair proportion of the 1990/1991 BTCC grid, including some of the occasional and one-off entries- Amato Ferrari's Crypton RS500, Andy Middlehurst's one-off run in Mike Newman's RS500, and David Coulthard's sole BTCC start for Vauxhall all feature

Looking through them, spotted a couple of things. Firstly, I thought that Mike Smith only appeared once in the red/white Trakstar Sierra before it was sold to Graham Hathaway- looking at this pic,
http://www.brdcprints.co.uk/lowres/1...n/1/356842.jpg
he seems to have appeared in Round 1 at Oulton as well. Note Mike Newman's Sierra, without Listerine sponsorship, and with the 'Mad Mike' sunstrip in response to a Dave Brodie comment, as discussed earlier in the thread.

Secondly, the Jerry Mahony BRR Motorsport/Arquati M3- from the pic I've got, this ran with race number 69. I'd assumed it kept the same number after Ian Flux took over the drive late-season- On the evidence of a pic from the BRDC archive, it seems to have changed to no.59 when Fluxie replaced Mahony

I apologise for my laziness, I am keen to help out and plug in any gaps. I don't have much time to go through the whole thread, but could anyone point out which race results that need completing or filling in?

I got 1986-1990 Motoring News newspapers and I got it with me now. Thank you.

Bigears, thanks for the offer, I suspect anyone interested in the Group A threads will have got your message at least twice already, depending on which order they read them in!!!

Thanks for the enthusiasm though!

The 1980 Tricentrol one is the one in most need of development and to reiterate the idea is for open discussion of individual races rather than simply results.

I'll take a look through the thread and see what we're missing- I have a feeling that there are at least a couple of incomplete results for 1989/90, as Autosport (particularly in '89) developed an annoying habit of not listing every finisher in their results tables- though I've got a feeling MN was doing much the same....

trying to tidy the loose ends in this one up a bit- like I've done with the others, I'll post the entry list (which I think we might have pretty much complete?) and go back through the results to see what we're missing

Only two classes this year- though having two one-hour races gives the need to fit a third driver in...

I can hardly imagine the F3000 support race taking place on August 23, 1990 - that's a thursday. The F3000 race itself took place on august 19, which seems rather more likely.

Recently bought a copy of the 1990 BTCC series guide. I don't think it will make any difference of the drivers list I will put up:

1 - Andy Rouse - Ford Sierra RS500,
3 - Tim Harvey - Ford
4 - Sean Walker - Ford
5 - Mike Newman - Ford
10 - Laurence Bristow - Ford
11 - Robb Gravett - Ford
12 - Mike Smith - Ford
14 - Graham Hathaway - Ford
15 - Graham Goode - Ford
22 - Dennis Leech - Ford
50 - John Cleland - Vauxhall Cavalier GSI
51 - Ray Bellm - Ford Sapphire
52 - Ian Forrest - BMW M3
53 - Jimmy McRae - BMW
53 - Hugh Chalmers - BMW
55 - Frank Sytner - BMW
56 - Kurt Luby, Tim Sudgen, Kelvin Burt (BMW Junior Team) - BMW
57 - Nick Baird - BMW 318iS
60 - Mark Hales - Mitsubishi Starion
66 - Nick Whale - BMW
69 - Jerry Mahony - BMW
70 - Chris Hodgetts - Vauxhall Cavalier GSI
77 - Godfrey Hall - BMW
88 - John Clark - BMW
90 - Nettan Lindgren - BMW
