I think so. Wasn't this the first time that both of his cars qualified outside the top 20? Then Jimmy finished 6th and outdrove both of his drivers in the race, on a circuit in which he had no prior experience at that could have given him an advantage over the two rookies. I think Chip should have kept Jimmy for his experience in setting up cars.

I do think it was a bit of a mistake releasing Jimmy, but I also think both halves of the equation needed something new. I don't think Jimmy would have performed as well for TCGR as he did for Patrick because he needs a sponsor. I think it will do some for his career to drive for Patrick.

Jimmy had the advantage of qualifying in the last group, while the two rookies had to qualify in the first group when the track was slower. With virtually no overtaking due to the bad conditions at the track, the Ganassi boys had a difficult debut. Give them a chance, the season is only one race old.
Having said that, I must say I agree with KC. I both hope and think the change of environment will be positive for Jimmy's career. |

I also think Chip made a bad move, but he had no chance. Jimmy wasn't happy, neither was Gannassi so if he ended keeping Vasser it would've been an awkward situation for both, owner and driver. And vasser has better options in patrick, he can be one of the guysa to watch this year, now that patrick has changed to toyota, and jimmy has last year's experience with the engine, so they'll make a good setup each race. I hope this can be a rebirth season for the american.

That's a good point, Kuchi, about the engine. Wouldn't it be great if Jimmy could take the title!
 Geez... I've got so many favourites in this series!

Jimmy could end up as the Adrian Fernandez of 2001! He had a deteriorating relationship with Chip, mostly because of Alex and Juan, so this is a good way of getting a bit of payback. He is a sleeper this year, for sure.
 The Toyota is even more powerful this year, surprisingly so.
