inpitlane should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Re: Sandown's future

From the script to last night's In Pit Lane news:

Quote:
The Melbourne Racing Club has strenuously denied radio and Internet rumours regarding the future of Sandown as a motor racing venue. Sandown track manager Wade Calderwood told In Pit Lane that rumours on 3AW and various Internet forums had no basis in fact.
The rumours claimed that the Sandown 500 in two weeks time would be the final ever race meeting at the circuit.
Another rumour claimed that Sandown would next year be managed by Calder Park promoter Bob Jane and that the track would run races under the auspices of the AASA.
Mr Calderwood said that the MRC had never even spoken to Bob Jane or AASA and that all future racing at the circuit would continue to run under CAMS accreditation.
The upcoming Sandown 500 will be the last to be run by current promoter Jon Davison before the Horse racing club takes the reigns for the big Sandown Historic Meeting in November.

I was in Bob Janes office just over two years ago when he said he had heard that Jon Davison would be getting the flick from Sandown. At that point he said lets ring the MRC and see if it’s true. He did and the MRC man said they still had a way to go with Jon Davison contract and that they would be intending to honour and renew the contract for another term.

It sounds like Bob know what is happening at the MRC before they do.

Usually not always, were there is smoke there is fire, does Mr Calderwood know Steve Chalker?

If the Sandown 500 is to be the final race then the MRC are in a big hole with the GT Championship boys. They have an enduro scheduled for the first weekend in December!

I think Historic Sandown would probably be bigger...

MRC aren't really going to be doing much, other than making sure that the track and facilities are ready for whatever event is on. Next years 500 will be promoted by IMG/VESA Events, just like they do with Tassie, PI, Bathurst and which ever other events they run.

As for Historic, that's being looked after by VHRR and the GT500 is being look after by the Aus GT group.

Exact words from the horses mouth as I have been told, the MRC are leaving the organization of officials, emergency services and so on to the client who rents the circuit.

Which, strategically further distances them from certain obligations under the OH&S Act.

Yes and No. But remember, they own and operate the whole facility, so regardless of what horsepower is on whichever tracks, they still have to maintain a certain level of OH&S. But mind you, the four legged side of the business will probably get priority.

Now Axeman, you might be onto something there.

I once heard a comment that if they plugged up the leaks, the Thunderdome could be flooded, and made into a ski park !

What about a fish farm ?

Looking at the pic of the return road at turn 1, one hopes that it is now a fact that it will NEVER be used whilst cars are on track, for now the officials have nowhere to go when a vehicle uses the return......

Or would that come under an OH&S forum?

OMG!

Horse Flu found at Sandown. The whole place has been locked down tight.

No cars, vans, trucks allowed to leave the property.

All spectators, drivers, officals and fans had to wash their shoes before they could leave. The knuckle draggers had to wash their hands too.

I hope we can get the cars and transporters out before Bathurst.

Brighty was allowed to take his car home. Horse Flu cant be caught by a dog.
