What's a "turn table"?

Just joking. I still have some vinyl myself, and a turn table but they are in the loft and not been played for 20 years.

Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Parkins, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Sonny Burgess, Carl Mann, etc. etc. etc. all from Sun Records in Memphis.

There ain't been nuttin' like it since.

Duck Soup?

Don't worry Iain I have little doubt that sanity will prevail before long, and we will continue to be enthralled with your tales of derring do on the ferries to France.

"Me too. Wow - I've just agreed with Bauble."

A very dangerous statement to make on this forum I suspect.

"Showing your age there Bauble, does your turntable go any slower than 78RPM?"
By co-incidence I turned 78 just a few weeks ago, and yes! I do turn a lot slower now.

Now I must get busy and sort out some music for the barbe (whoops) Social evening.

Rock on Daddio!

My parents and theiur friends have good taste in music, as a musician I suppose I've just explored a little further than most. Having worked in the US a few times I managed to bring back a good stash on vinyl, back when you could pack 30 LP's and 50 7" singles in hand luggage and it didn't get weighed! Brighton has always had a good music scene and record shops too

Ye gods, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band; I'd almost forgotten them; one of my first LPs I seem to recall. Think I wore it out - great stuff.

Yes John, those old gramophone needles did wear out the shellac didn't they?

I am listening to Elvis's Reconsider Baby as I type, and if you haven't got this you should have, Zef et al.

I never really got into Elvis, More of a blues and soul man. Otis Redding is possibly my favourite. STAX hit the nail firmly on the head, with full fat rhythm and bass.

Yeah, I always struggled a bit with Elvis.

Good version from Otis R, Joe but don't you think the drummer seemed to have a bit of an obtrusively noisy tappet.

Anyone remember Savoy Brown?

I suppose as we are on our tea break, it is alright to discuss tastes in music particularly as most of it is very much either historic or classic. Even so I can't understand how some of you can listen to such rubbish, it's as bad a driving period Lotus cars!

I have a good mind to mention Tommy Steele and Bert Weedon.

Now where are my Dickie Valentine 78's?

Wind up the Victrola, dear, would you?

Oh! Dear we should never have dug up the Anderson shelter.

Good grief.

I read somewhere a few months ago that John Mayall is still touring. I think it was a review of a gig in Sydney.

And then there's Fleetwood Mac ....

(Not to be confused with earlier Dirty Mac Brigade nor the later Big Mac and Apple Mac.)

Never saw you as a Michael Buble fan Tim, Larrry Williams sang 'Slow Down', something you should consider, perhaps?

Never heard of Slipshod, Slather, or even Soda. I will have to get a wireless set.

But you've heard of Michael Bubble Bob, putting his name in was my attempt at being facetious, can't stand him although I can't say I even know any of the wailings he's put out. Here's a bit of Slayer for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvuO2EvCTAE quite mellow really.

I'd stick with a crystal set Bob. The sound is more in tune with the reception of older ears.

I'm surprised you have even heard of crystal sets GP. My elder brother made one when we were kids, but he always was the clever one, mind you HE never got to shake hand with Fangio, but I did ............. as I recall it was at a Sinatra concert.....................

Come on chaps let's have a few more Desert Island Discs, you must admit it is much more interesting than Mike and Iain's hard luck stories about transporting old cars around the continent.

Surely somebody remembers Gerry and the Pacemakers.

"Chicken Shack" I saw Stan playing in Tunbridge Wells a couple of years ago but he hasn't got better ! and of course the girl singer was Christine Perfect later to become Christine Mcvie of Fleetwood Mac.
Also I saw Dave Edmunds playing a few times, once in a pub !
Never heard of Duster Bennett though.
