Austrian Grand Prix question
Hi everbody
I'm looking for an answer to the following question, and I think perhaps the good people here might be able to help me. The question is: An Austrian driver once started the Austrian Grand Prix after having failed to qualify. Who was he, and what happened to him in the race? I know that it wasn't Hans Binder (1978) or Helmut Koinigg (1974). All help gratefully accepted! regards Neil Gallop |

Can't help with the driver, but I think it was 1977(?). I vaguely recall reading this in a magazine. Also, are you sure it happened in Austria? i thought it was at Hockenheim.

Hi
thanks for the replies so far. Both answers "almost" fulfill the criteria for the information that I'm looking for. Hans Heyer is a German who drove in the 1977 German Grand Prix in Hockenheim (his only start in Formula 1). He started 25th, although he was in fact slower than two other competitors on the entry list. I'm still looking for the same "trick" with an Austrian in the Austrian GP. The question is the only one I need to crack in order to win myself some tickets for Hockenheim and Monza in a competition being run by the company that I work for. regards Neil |

Write directly to Dino, by e-mail or whatever - just click on his profile; he knows everything worth knowing.

Was it not Gerhard Berger in his first or second drive when he was with ATS back in 83-86 ?

I think Gerhard Berger is very close to being the answer (or so I am informed). He wasn't registered with the FIA at the start of the season in 84, and the point he one in Italy was neutralized - the race in Austria was the race before Italy, which in my eyes means that he didn't take part "officially" and hence couldn't qualify. I've got one more day to come up with the correct answer... regards Neil |
