Donington Park Pitwall

Does anyone know if the new pitwall being built this winter will have fencing on the top of it, like Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.

The old one is being removed and replaced by a lovely new pitwall this winter.
That was confirmed at testing last Thursday by circuit staff.

I suspect it will have that unsightly fencing on top of it, as that seems to be current MSA thinking, in these health & safety gestapo days. When was the last time that any debris cleared the pitwall at Donington?

May be not at Donington but I have had to duck as the bonnet of a Marcos GT car flew over the top of the Mallory pit wall after it crashed during a wednesday morning test.

Ooo, fun. Interesting that all the European and American circuits have that fencing, but no Aussie circuits (save for our international ones, Albert Park and Gold Coast) have it. Maybe I just answered my own question, or maybe us Aussies aren't afraid of a little metal. .

You should be.....!

Have to say i didn't like the fencing at OP when it was put in, but after seeing how Porsche's can fly from a start line incident you're better safe than sorry. As long as it's got adequate access for pit boards / flagging it's fine.

Is it reasonably forseeable that debris might come over the pit wall? If the answer is yes a circuit owner and the MSA are likely to be deemed to be negligent for any injury caused if they fail to address the risk and someone is injured.

Having seen many many bits of cars come over pit walls including ones like Silverstone with debris fence, it scares the hell out of me being in a pit lane that has no debris fencing.

Personally I'm amazed that their are any circuits left that don't have debris fencing on their pit walls. It's not a case of Health and Safety "gestapo" more like a sensible assessment of risk and reacting before someone get's hurt and circuits are priced out of existence by their insurers.

I remember sitting in the Safety Car at pit exit for an FIA GT meeting a few years ago when a bonnet flew right over the top of the Safety Car and landed next to the Scrutineering Bay behind the 10 foot metal fence, narrowly missing a couple of the Scrutineers road cars. That certainly woke us up

It didnt miss all off them but it wasnt mine that it hit. If I remember right it was the lister storm, and the team ran down to get it back
Wonder if they will make as much mess of the pit wall as the bumpy pit lane

When we first had the catch fencing put up at Oulton there was a coming together from the start of a race of monopostos, a wing came flying right over it and landed almost at the entrance to the garage, narrowly missing the marshals that were standing there. Very few times have we had debris over the pit wall fortunately, but if we care to read the back of our tickets it always carries a warning of the dangers. No matter what precautions we take on and off the track, something out of the ordinary can and will happen.

Going back to the question - it could be carried out during January.
