Mallory Park FF1600 Lap Record

Does anyone know what the lap record is around Mallory Park in a FF1600? I've tried trawling the internet and not come up with anything useful.

The Monoposto 1600 lap record is 47.8, set in 2002 by an RF32 - http://www.monoposto.co.uk/results/l...ords-mono1600/

I think thats probably an RF82 and is likely to be a typo.

Jamie Spence was lap record - i think - July 92 - but either way - you have to be below 48 to be quick

Blimey! That is quick. Thanks for that. I vaguely remember seeing that it was Spence and being amazed at how long the record has stood for!

How come no one has come close in recent years, most FF1600 races there seem to be won in the high 48s, low 49s? I would have thought the current ACB10's are quicker than the '92 spec ACB9's that the British championship would have run...

The record might go again soon. Current thinking is that Mallory is now 0.75-1.00 seconds quicker thanks to the resurfacing (although the approach to the hairpin will feel very bumpy in a stiffly-sprung car)

I was competing in that race, I've just had a look at the results sheet and Jamie was not the only one in the 47s, Magnusson did a 47.89, Vincent Vosse 47.87, and Calandrielo 47.94

I think it was Dunlops that look the same as current ACB9s that were running 20 years ago. The current ACB10s are no faster, apparently you had to scrub the Dunlops from about 10mm down to about 5mm of tread (a new ACB10 has about 6mm) to make them really work. But the lap records here in Ireland were never beaten with the ACB10s. Equalled but not beaten. It was only the newest cars (on ACB10s) that were able to finally beat the RF91 type lap records.
Apart from a fenomynal penomin phonem. brilliant lap by a Mr Ferguson esq. in Alan Kellys 89 Reynard, Which was faster than anyone had ever gone in a pre 90 car.
Salutations due.
I cant find the smilie!!!!!!

The Mono cars have wings and slicks, this was done on treaded Dunlops and no aero help.

I gather the new FF1600 Avon front is a harder compound this year so times might suffer a bit. Saying that Martin Short did an excellent 1m 49.0 on the harder rubber at Oulton Park today so maybe not.

It was an FF2000 RF82. That was the crazy year mono put the 2000 cars in the 1600 class. So all the records went out of the window. Before that Peter Cocks held the 1600 record for mono in a ff1600 VD (slicks and diffuser fitted) and that if remember was a low 48.
Once got into the 48's with my Lola T642E.....but only once.

Its not just the hairpin which is now bumpy. There is a big bump between the hairpin and the top of the elbow which lifts the rear wheels off the ground in an F3 car. But even worse than that is the bump just before the esses (which i think caused the accident for the Hall and Hall F1 Shadow in testing last month). It is now bumpier around Mallory than ever.

Of course they were, mental blank on my part. I was only two at the time, so maybe I can be excused .

Certainly is, it was slightly uncomfortable in our FF1600 RF00.

The track is undoubtedly quicker, though yesterday it started out quite greasy. We eventually got down to 48.7s (on old tyres) in our shakedown test, so not too shabby. Definitely think 47s are possible come JEB's meeting later in the year.

Mallory Lap Records with a Blast from the Past

Just stumbled on this thread, with some amusement,ie,such is progress.

Back in 1969 both Barrie Maskell & Emerson Fittipaldi both had identical lap record times in 48 seconds dead in their 1 litre F3 cars, running by to days standards harder high profile Firestone Y.B.11 Tyres.

Indeed yesterday i found it quite easy to lap in the low 47s in a period 1969 Chevron B15 F3 car taking both Gerards and the Esses flat.
Such is the modern nature of the circuit.

You guys don't seem to have come a long way in the last 40 years!
