Proposed ARCA tracks for Syracuse, NY in 1996

A few links that have to do with a proposed ARCA race that was to be held in Syracuse, NY. Apparently, the Syracuse Grand Prix Association has been proposing a race through the streets of downtown Syracuse since 1986. They finally were able to lobby the local government into holding a race in July 1996. The first two links are a view of the track. The first link is from an article posted in the Syracuse Post-Standard on January 17, 1995. The second link is of the track drawn at G-Maps Pedometer.

The next link (dated July 27, 1995) talks about the race being moved to outside the NY State Fairground and Expo Center as a road course.

The next link (dated April 17, 1996) mentions the construction of the track beginning on May 1st, with the race happening on July 14, two and a half months later.

The last link shows that the track was never built, thus the race never happened.

I was able figure out why the race was moved to the Fairgrounds. The local government was opposed to the noise and pollution given off by the cars. I was not able, however, to determine why the race was cancelled altogether.

One final note, when I read this in the paper when it was originally printed, my parents were going to buy me tickets to the race. Still to this day, I have yet to see a Grand Prix race.
