Zandbak should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
World Series @ Monaco

World Series @ Monaco, and again it goes wrong. Somewhere at the Casino-area Patrick Pilet crashed into the barriers today. During the intervention for this crash it was Pastor Maldonado who "parked" his car at the same spot. Result? A marshal that was wounded at his hip................

For years they have raced in Monaco with F1's, F3000 en F3's cars.........many accidents but no marshals that are being attacked by cars. What is "wrong" with the World Series in 2005?

By the way, they are only 1 second faster than a F3 at Monaco. Reason?

monaco is always gonna be somewhat of a leveller. f3s are nice and compact meaning they probably found it easier around the twisty bits. i thought the world series cars would be very close to the gp2 cars at monaco, lets wait and see...

as for the marshall though, its pathetic. obviously i havent seen the incident but if this is another ignorance of yellow flags thing, heads should roll. drivers should be banned outright. marhsalls do their upmost for driver safety and this is how they are repaid?

Indeed, Monaco is always a leveller. I wonder though just how close the Renault World series cars will be to the GP2 machines, its worth noting too that in this weeks Autosport Magazine reports that Bridgestone have come up with a super soft compound for the GP2 series to ensure the lap times are signifcantly faster than those of the World series cars.

GP2 cars have on average this year in qualifying been around 10 seconds off the pace off the last place Minardi's, it will be interesting to see how close they can get to the back marker F1 cars this weekend with this new rubber the GP2 cars have, especially when u consider the F1 cars will be carrying fuel and that Monaco isnt a track that requires big top end speed.

Now I know why... because Pastor ignored yellow flags and hit a marshal called Pierce, who had two broken verthebrae due to this incident.
Sad things for team DAMS in WS: first Danielsson injured, now Maldonado banned...

Perhaps this means that Alex Lloyd will last longer at his temporary drive at DAMS???

I think this is a good desicion, show the drivers they don't need to mess with safety. Zolder was already a mess (with Proetto, Danielsson and Fleming) and now this again. They better watch out in the future!

More info on the bans for yellow flag offences here: http://www.renault-sport.com/en/worl...ews=11735.html

Pastor Maldonado and Matteo Meneghello banned from Monaco and next four meetings; two of Meneghello's meetings are suspended bans, so I guess he will be allowed to race in them.

Andreas Zuber and Colin Fleming are both excluded from the Monaco meeting, and have a suspended exclusion for the next four meetings.

Bad news for Zuber especially, 2nd in the championship, but it's good that drivers are being punished for ignoring the yellows.

Ok, more updates

Maldonado - 9 races ban
Meneghello - 5 races ban (+4 race suspended ban)
Zuber - 1 race ban (+4 race suspended ban)
Fleming -1 race ban (+4 race suspended ban)

So Zuber and Fleming will miss Monaco, Meneghello will be back (if not being dropped) at Bilbao and Maldonado will be back (if not being dropped) at Donington.

Call in the replacements

I think Zuber and Fleming have a 4 meeting suspended ban (ie. competing in 8 races under a suspended ban) rather than a four race suspended ban... if that makes any sense.

Curiosity: If Maldonado were a German, would he be punished with a crude sanction as he received? I smell discrimination over South-Americans here.
I understand World Series nine-race exclusion but not that the ACM will ban him to race at Montecarlo for the rest of his life. I give an example: with this criteria, Jacques Villeneuve shouldn't race at Melbourne again because he made there an accident that caused the death of a marshal.

Sorry, you're right. Not 4 races but 4 meetings.

And in the Villeneuve-Schumacher crash there was no marshall on the track or any flags waved.

This isn't going to do his position as an RDD driver any good.

Looks like Motors TV (UK) have realised they had the wrong time allocated for WSbR, so we'll have to wait until 21:00 tomorrow to see the race.

Banning Maldonado from Monaco for life would mean not a F1 contract ever. Although I fully agree on the penalty he received (9 race ban), ruining his future would be to harsh.
