Its a quite simple and not too expensive camera system that we use in our cars. A small lense with a image processor.

That's the one, although I thought it was when he was with Egg at the time.
Johan, is that an STCC camera or one the team have fitted and is it live broadcast or to tape? |

Flash Engineering have mounted those cameras in both of their STCC cars, facing forward and backward.
There has been interest from the tv broadcasters to use them in the live broadcast. |

The first on-board camera used in the BTCC was in 1968.
It was so heavy that when used at Thruxton the normally front-running car carrying it was lapped. |

I much prefer being able to see the steering wheel, I think thats a vital part of seeing on-board footage, watching the driver "work".
Whilst you do get the cameras which face "backwards" at the driver, you can't then see the track ahead. Being able to see ahead and watch the driver at the wheel is a real treat. You just dont get that now with on-boards, a real real shame. Last edited by Sodemo; 16 May 2008 at 17:25. |

I think part of the problem for ITV is that the BTCC Official camera, the one that records the whole race for the officials, is located in the prime location to give the view such as that given from the BMW above.
As such the TV companies have to find other locations within a car that a camera can be bolted onto and have the minimum of vibration and not obstruct either the driver, driver's view or the view of the official camera. |
