helmet specs and painting
Firstly, anyone know when snell 95 helmets are likely to end??? Im getting mine painted. Do i need to keep the blue sticker at the back on the helmet even though it has one in on the inside??
On a different note, anyone have any particular recommendations on who to go to for a good paint job? (apart from JLF!!) |

SA95 is FIA approaved up until the end of 2005.
SA2000 is FIA approved until end of 2010. Not sure about the sticker situation but your helmet painter will advise. Maxx |

Have the helmet painter leave the blue sticker on. Probably a good idea to have it laquered over though as they come off so easily.
I have just had my lid painted by Spray Point. It looks fantastic, I would highly recomend them. Their number is :01702 600702. |

Any idea what it will cost Dave? What sort of design are you going for?

Its costing me £260, which is a lot cheaper than others quoted me. Im due to get it back in about 6-7 weeks. As for the design, its too complicated to describe! Hes based in Derby and the helmets he had in his workshop yesterday were sh#t hot!! Andy, you decided what your doing this year?

Still hoping to do the Barber Dodge Pro Series in the USA. I am going out for a 2 day test at Sebring in April/May and am currently waiting to here from a couple of companies who are interested in sponsoring me for some of the races. Just hope it all comes together soon!
You doing Honda this year Dave? |

I would just like to say - if you have enough money to buy a helmet with fancy painted bits on then perhaps its time to buy a go faster bit or perhaps do a club meeting??

I mean that the cost of getting a lid painted is about the same as a race at Brands innit? I'd rather have a plain white helmet and do an extra race even if it wasn't a championship round.
Why do you paint your helmets? I mean I'd love to have mine tarted up but as I say I'd rather do an event. |

Take care guys, especially if on two wheels. There was research published several years ago which warned us to be very careful of helmet paint jobs which changed the friction characteristics of the helmet, never mind softened the shell. You need the helmet to slip over the tarmac, not catch and jerk your head sharply.

I got mine painted way back in 99 when I was karting after saving all my part time job money for 12 weeks to get enough for it. Its well worth it though, especially if your asspiring to get somewhere in motorsport as it gives you a sense of identity.
