Green road cars!

Ok people, get your thinking caps on.

I am doing a project for uni, designing a 100% green car, I need to do some user research, finding the views of people that own green cars such as the GWiz or a Prius etc and also people that are strongly against it, I am in the middle somewhere, I think green transport is a good thing but I am not in favour of banning petrol cars and obviously against motorsport being banned like some Greens want!

Anyway, please feel free to comment about the pros n cons and what-have-yous on the subject of Green cars and why you have or haven't considered buying 1.

Thanks

Richard

Green cars can be wonderful if done properly. For instance, british racing green has been done to fine effect on old competition cars of the 50's, 60's etc....

However, it can also be done extremely badly. Look at Jaguar in F1. That wasn't a good green. That was an abomination.

The car must also suit green. A green Prius would be daft for instance. But a green Aston Martin? Now you're talking!

*re-reads thread*

Whoops, I have the wrong end of the stick it seems.

So do I - I drive a green car (Arctic Green, to give it its official name!)........but not that green, as it's more a greeny silver.

Ask a serious question on ten-tenths?

You won't find hippies or greenies in here I'm afraid. They are bobbing about on a raft somewhere, shouting at oil rigs.

You were lucky! We used to dream of living in hole in middle of road. Would have been a palace to us!

We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah

I did drive a Lexus hybrid green something or other the other week. It was the dog's do dahs. Fast, quiet, nice to drive and probably very thirsty and very expensive to buy. It has caused vast pollution in some god forsaken outback of Canada where the battery was made, will cause vast amounts of pollution when the battery and electric motors need replacing and will cost an arm, a leg and probably a couple of other bits of human anatomy when it goes wrong.
If you want to be carbon friendly buy a Renault Clio or VW Polo diesel.

Why would he possibly want a 40mph car in the middle of Wales or yourself, in rural Cumbria! Or indeed me in mid-Leicestershire/Scotland.

You can see the reasoning behind them. I mean, you don't ever reach any sort of speed in London, so that disadvantage is negated.

However anyone who drives one would, I am sure, look like a complete idiot. Not just because they are driving a hideous excuse of a box, but because they will have ran out of power halfway to work in the morning and therefore won't be moving very far.

Is it really worth it just to lend your support to poxy environmentalists?

if ytou want to make an environmentaly friendly journey forget about cars, bikes, even pedal cycles etc... just walk, but make sure you don't breath!...and make sure your shoes havn't been made in a factory that burns fossil fuels or indeed that they don't have any plastics in them....

Two out of our four cars run LPG which makes for cleaner emmissions but what's involved in the production of the gas?
Three out of our four cars are recycled cars (Well, two really.. the Quantum was built from new parts rather than the more usual recycled Fiesta!)
One is dark green.
