Shell and DJR to part company?

There is apparently a story in a southern newspaper today that Shell and DJR will part company at the end of the year.

would be a shame if that happened , am I right in thinking its the longest association of sponsorship between 2 parties in Australian History , if not would have to come close.

Maybe Fujitsu will step up to the plate if this indeed happens ?

A few weeks ago I did read that Fujitsu wanted to promote themselves in the main category.

There was a strange bit in the Bathurst telecast when Brad Jones and Greg Rust mentioned Fujitsu, as if they knew something we all didnt. I honestly thought at the time it may have been BJR related ??

Fujitsu is supposedly going to Jason Bright and Jose Fernandez is going there to run a 'Lite' car as well. Fernandez has apparently bought the ex Tratt BA for this series.

Might also explain why there was a massive discount on Shell-DJR merchandise at Mt Panorama.

DLR are always discounting there m,erchandise this time of year. As for the switch to Holden this was a rumour started on April 1st.

My thoughts are maybe BJR

It won't be BJR. I thought Shell signed a three year deal about 4 months ago???

I thought Mobil and Brock might be a contender for this, since 85' and HRT since 94', but it hasn't been with the one team (HDT, then Advantage Racing, then HRT).

Shell has been reducing their involvement with V8's for a few years now.

Not sure why? It's not like the company struggles for cash!

I wonder when they go (I beleive it was decided at the beginning of the season), I wonder if they'll bow out all together and pull their supply of fuel from the category as well. All the V8's (as well as course cars and AVESCO limos) run Shell ultra.

Maybe a good chance for BP to flog their new eco friendly premium ???

The DJR/Holden rumour was true - to a point. There were some informal 'feeling out' discussions. DJR's people spoke to Holden's people out in the back alley and hoped no-one would find out about it. But there was never any serious negotiation.

This Shell to leave DJR rumour comes out several times a year. One day it will come true. Don't know when that day is.

Shell pulling out of the series sponsorship was more to do with the change in AVESCO's promotion of the series (ie: there's no naming rights sponsor, only Platform sponsors) and Shell sure weren't going to pay the asking price of $7m to be a sole Platform sponsor.

As for whether or not Fujitsu sponsors DJR, that will depend on how much influence Fernandez has on Fujitsu. He gets his cash because he's best mates with the right person at Fujitsu, and JF was not happy about the way things went at DJR. Which is why he's already switched to Bright's team. He'll take Fujitsu money there - so for them to back DJR as well will require a whole new deal separate from Fernandez, who was the catalyst for bringing Fujitsu money into the series in the first place.

Didnt someone have a snipe at me the other day about not having brought this old chestnut out of the cupboard?

Shell appears to have woken up to something that Caltex has known for a few years now... it takes more than sticking a logo on the side of a race car to generate significant volume... their volumes are up on the basis of the Coles relationship, and they got rid of all their lousy outlets.. win win...

Its not impossible for SuperCheap to go to DJR, although they were mentioned as a possible replacement to Konica Minolta for naming rights of V8Lites....
