For SA the drivers are Stephen Simpson and Gavin Cronje.

Has it been red flagged from 16:30, or is this a fresh stoppage showing on MST?

Conditions wet/raining - guess that's the reason for the stop?

EDIT: Gone green as soon as I clicked back over to MST!

No, there have been at least a couple since 16:30. Parente (sorry, Portugal) is going well in the wet...

I'm probably a bit late catching up with this, but has anyone else realised how the competition numbers are allocated?

I noticed earlier and also thought I had probably been a little slow on the uptake, or that it was common knowledge. Are you thinking International dialing codes, foxy mole?

Now I thought I read in yesterday's Autosport that none of the cars are carrying numbers.

That may be the case, I haven't seen the cars today, but certainly the live timing was using International dialing codes to reference the cars.

I think you are right about dialing codes, at least +31 is the dialing code for Holland.

For the observers and timekeepers there needs to be numbers. F1 have numbers, but only the stewards/timekeepers use them, everyone else recognises the branding c/w helmet colour.

If they're neutral numbering (like phone code numbers) it make sense, they don't want an arguement brewing about who's ranked higher I suppose (AUSvNZ, PAKvIND, etc etc). Before anyone had mentioned it, I hadn't noticed the connection though.

Yes, exactly. They have to have numbers for timing purposes, if nothing else, and that's a really neat way of settling the issue.

Yes, it's the international dialling codes as they need numbers....but is this only an MST thing?

You need to take into account that A1GP is a spec series, so the cars may not be as quick as a similar spec car, with more technical freedom.

The A1GP website is talking of times in the 1m 10s bracket. Piquet holds the F3 lap record for the previous, slightly slower (I'd say) version of the track in 1:18.865, so surely a 1:15 should be possible?

What's the forecast like for Saturday / Sunday though? I know it's supposed to be raining, but is there any period it's expected to dry off ie not a damp track therefore?

Wait and see, I'd say. All race circuits I know seem to have their own pocket weather climates. If you look here, which is Sevenoaks, it looks pretty good!

Luckily, it's likely to be dry on Sat/Sun.

The timesheets flattered us (TeamGBR) I fear, as we stayed out much longer on the drying track. I think we are probably about 7/10ths off the pace in the wet.

The fastest guys seem to be Brazil, Portugal, USA - I think they are our biggest threats at the moment. We were very good, as you might expect, but despite the timesheets, I suspect we are not quite there ... Ireland and Canada were impressive too. Ditto Switzerland. This is already pointing towards being a great championship - any one of 10 teams could take a win, the way it's shaping up. We should definitely be up there, in with a shout, but it's no walk in the park, I promise you.

I think you're wrong Mr Jinxx (am always an optomist) - Robbie never uses practice sessions to try and go faster than anyone else while it is clear that USA/Brazil/France were going for glory at Paul Ricard (low fuel runs, using the boost buttons, etc.). He just plugs away trying to get the setup of the car just right - I doubt he'll show his true hand until this morning or qualifying.
