Jonny Apex should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Watts To Win FRenault Title At Brands?

By my calculations, Watts will be crowned champion at Brands this weekend if he stretches his 53-point lead out to 68.

That's regardless of the single dropped score rule.

Only then could someone - likely Green - tie with him at Donington, but lose out on number of wins. Watts has five - the most Green can achieve is four.

Unless Green wins at Brands, that is, in which case Watts won't win the title this weekend after all!

Anyone care to place a bet?

I'll bet my copy of 'Line Dancing for beginners' that Danny will take the title at Brands.

Nah, I think Green's got a better chance of winning at Brands, and Patrick Long should do well as Brands is one of his better tracks and he's now settled in at Fortec. Watts will probably have to wait until Saturday 21st September.

Davison and Hamilton need to score at least 14 points more than Watts at Brands - just to stay alive. Green cannot afford to drop more than 14 points to Watts. None of them, except Watts, can afford a DNF. Watts is up for Brands so who's under pressure?

Not necessarily. Last year Carl Breeze was the only driver to drop points at the end of the season (everybody else having a zero score), and his lowest result was a fifth.
Would definitely spice up the championship though!

I think he got PUT in an F3 car in testing at the start of the year, the problem is that the question "Will someone please fund Danny Watts to race in F3 next year" has to be asked. After the season he's had, it'd be a great shame if he didn't move up the ladder.

I think that A fortec driver has a good chance of winning this weekend. Nice and specific aren't I? I'm tipping Pat Long, as I always do!

As for the championship, Danny can only throw it away, it'd be hard even if he tried at this stage.

But should he do F3 or the new 'Super Renault' assuming it happens.

Has anyone else seen the official Renault press release which says that if Danny stretches his lead at Brands Hatch by enough points, he could sit out the races at Donington (so getting zero points) and use that score as his dropped score, so avoiding having to drop the 22 points which are his current lowest score - an interesting viewpoint - and yet another controversy for this season if it happens....

Whats the point in sitting out the race? if he gets less than 22 he can drop those, if he gets more then he keeps the extra points but drops the 22. Sitting it out makes no sense at all!

If he's won the title he might want to go off and do something else instead, like Porsches again.

Controversial? Kimi missed out the last few rounds in 2000, if I remember rightly.

Danny tested F3 with Fortec at Donington last October. Taylor,Antinucci,Mark Hynes and Tom Sisley were also there. Even though Mark Taylor put new tyres on at the end of the day he still didn't match Danny's time on used, but decent older rubber. He will fly in F3 - just hope he finds the backing.
