Powerboost button

I'm interested to see what people's opinion is of the powerboost button in A1GP.

I don't really like it. It has the ability to be used as much to stay infront of someone as to pass them (like trying to keep france behind with a couple of laps to go on the weekend). It also feels like a gimick, it has sort of a Nintendo style 'nitro boost' feel to it.

Personally at first I didnt like it either, now though as the season has progressed it has helped to make some interesting racing IMO, yes today was a good example of how it can be used to defend a postition but that is what the boost button is for as much as it is to help overtaking.

France had already used all of their boost buttons and that is their problem, good on people like Switzerland for using their brains and keeping a couple of boosts back for a little later in the race rather than using them all straight away at the start of the race. The boost button works well in Champ cars IMO and I think its workng well in A1 GP too.

Agreed Saleen - it adds an extra thing for the driver to think about

I was chatting to a friend of mine on this very subject yesterday. It also has another dimension - braking. By travelling at a higher speed after using a boost, drivers will have to brake earlier to make the corner, that can lead to mistakes and the other driver can get the place back. I'm sure that's the reason for at least one off at Estoril...

I think it's a great idea. I don't actually disagree with the "Nintendo"-type argument because yes it is a gimmick which alters the pure racing. But what's wrong with that. I could think of several racing series who could do with a gimmick or two to actually make them watchable.

It's something a bit extra in a single engine, single chassis formula. without it it could lead to an F1 style procession

FPA have been using it for years and I've seen some great races. It certainly doesn't spoil my enjoyment of racing.

Without it we would not have had the amusement of Sean McIntosh wiping his nose on the back of the Italian car...

In all seriousness I like it, when you see it being applied you sit up and take notice, expecting something exciting to happen. It usually does...

The only thing I would change is possibly reducing the number of times they can use it in the feature race.

It's fine exactly as it is.

Far better that they spend time finding a solution to the recurring wheel nut problem and cars stalling on the grid. Drivers like Verstappen and Piquet are not novices, so I don't believe it's their fault.
