ThePenguin should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I don't think that anyone has put this up yet, but the ex-F1 racer and more recently test driver for Toyota, Franck Montagny, has said that he may try and pursue a career in Champ Car or Sportscars.

Until somebody tells them the amount of the check they should bring, a lot of them will be interested....happens every year.

CC's in the hunt after he gets turned down by F1, pay deals for GP2 and sports cars and maybe a couple others and the price per ride in CC starts coming down in March.

Montagny has been linked to the NHL seat, you know guys the one that paid quite nicely for the past 4 seasons.

Oh goody! So that means Justin Wilson gets the shaft then?

With CDW gone, his team gone and now Franck going to NHL (potentially), his prospects are what?

Oh yeah. A ride on the DCR merry-go-round.

And all of Pittisburgh is clamoring to see Mutoh in the IRL as well. That's really irrelevant John. It's the case we all know most forgein drivers don't appeal and isn't national news.

Back on topic Frank is a fantastic driver who was F1 bound. Always good to pick up talent and enhance the 2008 CCWS. Hope he signs a deal with a team.

Again, another mountain out of a mole hill. It isn't confirmed either will be at NHL. If Wilson doesn't get the drive he will find a top ride, as he be the favorite now Bourdais has left to be his successor.

Exactly.

Wilson to FPR is also being talked about.

Excellent news on Oriol, this could be the year for him to shine. It will be interesting to see who gets the second seat.

Unlike the last Frenchman in the series, Montagny is truly a warm and very friendly personality - he would be a great asset to the championship.

Hey mac,

Good to see oldtimers such as yourself popping their heads here - even if I diverge about Bourdais' personality. My personal experience is that he was one of the most pleasant drivers I've met in the last ten years or so. Surely the man is not Peter Perfect - his crybaby attitude at Mont Tremblant last year was pathetic, for example - but who is so? I truly find Sebas a nice fellow.

Cheers,

Muzza

Thanks Muzza - likewise!!!

I'm sure Bourdais is a thoroughly nice chap. What I was attemtping to refer to (in a quite lazy fashion), and what you also (rather more successfully) referred to was the fact that Seb often left himself open to, let's say less-than-positive, thoughts from some quarters. It's common knowledge that he's made a few enemies over the years.

You can't deny that these factors have led to a somewhat frosty reputation.

In contrast, I don't think anyone that has ever had much to do with Montagny would ever say a bad word about him - my personal experience with Franck is that he is a funny, easy-going and amiable character.

Something that does not really fit the public's perception of Bourdais.

I have to say i would love to see Franck end up in Champ Cars, i have been a fan of his for many a year now and it pains me to think his single seater days are over, especially as his only F1 shot was in a 4 year old Arrows!!!, if he did get a drive here he would be up at the sharp end without question, if he got a plum seat he would be a good bet for the title, he is a top draw driver. Also does anyone know if Giorgio Pantano is looking at getting a seat here, he seems to have slipped off the GP2 radar and rumours are starting up it may be because he is looking at Champ Cars, yet another top euro talent who would do an excellent job, indeed he would be another title challenger in my opinion.

But only 5 of the top 10 drivers from last season returning at present. Not good. It's a start though.

With Bourdais moved on and Wilson nowhere at present I'd say it would be most likely between him and Doorknobs
