HERO 1000 Mile Trial
Haven't seen a thread for this, but hoping to get out to see the event pass through the Peak District next Wednesday - starts Monday, finishes Saturday ( http://www.heroevents.eu/Events/1000.../routeoutline/ ) and a certain Mr Rushton of this parish seems to be taking part in, of course, a Talbot - along with another 40 or so 20s and 30s motorcars......
The ever-keen young Welsh ladies the Whytes are out in an Austin Seven - a bit different from the BMW I last saw them piloting. Plenty of other "usual suspects" too...... Anyone else out competing / marshalling / spectating? |

No h in Ruston!
We are going for a social trip and leave the rally to any of these made last week specials with hydraulic brakes and dampers. At least they look like old cars but not much else with those elastic capacities of Bentley engines. Can't imagine I'm stirring the pot! |

Should have an idea on Monday am but presume mid morning Tuesday.
Will advise when I know but am told just to drive the car and do what the navigator says. I occasionally take instruction. |

Had a great day today - a pleasant pub lunch at the Shady Oak on Long Hill, then watched the cars down the Goyt Valley - everybody seemed in good spirits and waving cheerily. Great scenery and beautiful motorcars.....can't be a bad way of spending a day
Thanks to the Hero Course car who we followed down the valley - when he pulled over we asked if the cars were on time....seeming slightly surprised he asked if we were watching the event and when we said "yes" - he reached into the back of the car and gave us a official Programme |

A very good rally
Certainly along with Flying Scotsman the best organised With a bit of tweaking it could be the best. The date costs the organisers entries and six days is a long event these days Five days and end of September date would help The way the speed tests are marked is superior to other events. We finish fourth and won the best supported class Lost the trip for last 24 hours but even had that not happened the result would have been the same Some of older hands at this game said some of the brilliant roads used in Wales were unknown to them until the past few days 1030 miles and dozens of competitive sections ,Tough stuff and the winner for second year in a row John Able deserved every accolade.Super bloke and his navigator Martin has to be with a shout of being the best in the biz. I'm going to bed for a couple of days! Knackered! |

Thanks Mike
The interesting thing was that the excellent navigators are all young and very clever at maths. The first four cars had drivers from 20 to mid 30's. Spend lots of time improving their prowess despite having proper jobs. Martyn Taylor,Andy Pullan,Dan Harrison and Jez Haylock Historic Ralling in a good place. |

Congrats on your result, Mr Ruston, Sir......sorry for delayed congrats but been away cheering on my Godson and his wife on the Bolton Ironman contest - 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, then a 26.2 mile marathon! Think he's taken to his bed, too.......
So what's the next event for the Talbot? |

The one thing that is a downside on these rallies that probably only two of top ten cars would qualify for HTPs or even a VSCC buff form
That's a pity. |

Absolutely first class event, brilliantly organised. A great, friendly crowd too,
For me, one of the best events I've ever done. Gordon |

As of yesterday there are 60 entries for next years Flying Scotsman.
Not bad as they have only opened for five days and with a hundred limit. Another comparison with 1000 mile trial which is on same level as FS. Organisers must change date of 1000 mile trial if they are to get the seventy five cars they are aiming for. |
