That doesn't mean that V8sc rent the track from the circuit though.

Stand alone events were tried by V8sc and failed. You can't ignore the past - or you are doomed to repeat it.

This 5 pillar approach I feel is another attempt to control Australian motorsport to push the barrow of V8SC category.

A 2nd strong National series is surely in the best interest of Australian motorsport - running more v8sc events and pushing them all under this banner marginalises competition and promotes a monopoly.

You don't understand the notion that a business could not rent a circuit yet could still promote it?

Examples include Queensland Raceway in recent years and SMP.

The 5 pillars quoted by Warburton look like a pretty good spectator centred business model for the Supercar operation.
I have some doubts though if it would allow the growth of circuit racing outside the control of SC thus leading to further moving our sport towards monopoly control.
Can CAMS develop into an strong enough independent regulator to prevent that happening?
The Super5000 class has the potential to fairly quickly become the crowd and TV favorite. With F1 type Camera mountings and a competitive field I think it will rapidly become the driver and spectator headline act.
Meanwhile, with all of the classes being basically spec or control formulas we need a strong alternative set of races for those who like technical inovation.

Strange that Supercars talk of Super5000 yet some claim it has nothing to do with Supercars.

Perhaps someone should let Supercars know.

They're only the catagory management, and handling most of the marketing.

Zero links to it at all.

A number of people will tell you that fans don't care about the technical aspects of the cars these days

Probably right about that segment of the fan base that you could call event watchers.
The real motorsport fans are by definition interested in the MOTOR vehicles.

What proportion of the paying fan base do they represent?

Me too if only because they couldn't come up with something better rather then trying to copy the name of Japan's domestic series that's far stronger then ours.

I also really hope they don't use the SuperGT moniker.

Everyone knows it as AusGT/Australian GT. Perhaps keep it that way?

Yeah there's nothing wrong with Australian GT Championship, its pretty self explanatory and as Aussies are known to shorten things, a lot of fans refer to it in its shortened form as Aus GT. If they want to come up with a better name maybe they can be a bit more creative then using Super as a prefix on everything they get their hands on.

Would it be a prudent idea to go and buy web domains and register trademarks on names like 'Super Electric' and 'Super-E' for a rainy day?

How long before they start a class called "Super Touring"

Should the thread be re-named to the Super Pillars?

You mean a TV show.

The problem with using something like Superstars is that it is a generic term, you can't really own it.
