scott speed confuses me. red bull think so much of him and he's being beaten by heikki kovalainen?

He seems hot and cold this season, some flashes of speed (excuse the pun) but never really setting the world alight

it'd be more worrying if he did set the world alight then slip into a middle field battle thing really though, so perhaps mediocrity is better than anything else...
feel a bit sorry for heikki. what with renault's dream team, he's not really got anywhere to go... |

Nowhere at renault, im sure they would be happy to stick him at Midland for a year or 2, would he be happy with that though?

Heikki has nowhere to go at Renault? Surely he is the number one candidate to replace Fisichella in 2007. I'm sure he will find his way onto the F1 grid next season.
As for Scott Speed, you have to keep in mind that he is only one season departed from Formula Renault. When he is going well, it is quite impressive as he is racing against other drivers with significant F1, F3000, and FNissan experience. I'm not sure whether Speed will make it in F1 given his season so far. A second year in GP2 could be make or break -- if he sticks around, that is. |

gp2 is new to everyone. that excuse doesnt really wash.
2007 is a *long* way away, there's a season in the middle to waste. |

And if he spent another year in GP2, and didn't do as well as this season - it wouldn't be very good for him, motorsport is a rather fickle world - a not so good season could mean red bull loose faith rather quickly

It's not so much an excuse for doing poorly rather than a hilight for when he goes well. As I said, I don't think this is the year that Speed's career is banking on. His career can afford a second season in GP2 to go after the title. The likes of Kovalainen and Bruni among others cannot.

Scott Speed is third in the points, what more do you want?
Don't forget that Speed has a serious illness that is physically very demanding. Beside, the Red Bull sponsorship is to find the next American for F1, and Speed is by far the best American outside of Champcars. |

No, he has.
It's something which is controllable but not cureable. |

they've not exactly put him in a situation where he can gain anywhere near the experience heikki's got though, they've made the mistake of rushing him once already. so i think we count experience out on the basis that this is what red bull for one are doing, they seem to think they're at similar points in their careers.

speed is hardly inexperienced. he has as much if not more experience than the likes of carroll, rosberg etc. kovalainen has the advantage of god knows how many laps in an f1 car, and a few years at a decent directly-below-f1 level of single seaters. plus he is in my opinion more talented.....and drives for arden who along with ART is the best team to be driving for in gp2. what has surprised me is that speed has yet to win a race. race wins will always impress me more than a winless champ.

Some good action in this race, but bloody Carlton Kirby is spoiling it with his usual terrible commentary.

K-B, if you can tell something about the race, I will appreciate it.
The only time living is in Eurosport, and it's stuck in lap 11. |
