panel damage should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I hear they have a numbe rof people in a large shed posing for life size photographs, so they can transfer theses photos onto cardboard and laminate them, there are around 50000 of them. these life size cardboard cut outs will be placed around the circuit - to give the impression that a crowd showed up. thats 49999 more than the last two years. If it wasnt for crew and team members the place was deserted.

its not always about the crowd

i think this is a fantastic event that allows grass roots drivers access to the best circuit in australia to compete in one of the most challenging events on the calendar

who cares if people are watching or not ... means i dont have to fight my way to get a good position on the fence

Reality check for those who think the Mini Challenge Cars will blend in as some minor class. At Eastern Creek this year the fastest Mini Challenge lap was in the 1m46 range. When Gary Holt raced his BMW there last year the fastest lap was around 1m49.These purpose built race cars will be a huge chance of an outright win.

Take away their slick tyres and add the 2 really long straights at Bathurst.....will they still compete on outright pace?

If Damien White, Grant Denyer and Paul Stokell shared a car I wouldn't bet against them.

The Bathurst 12 Hour will never attract a massive crowd at the track. A potential manufacturer is not interested so much in impressing those at the track - more the potential to show case their product in the media and television coverage.

Attend and you will enjoy a relaxed friendly enthusiast type race meeting. It is not the Bathurst 1000 - and it doesn't pretend to be.

Lack of crowd is an advantage for those that are there - you can watch from all the best spots, move about easily etc

Back to the Mini thing, we tend to find that slicks on a production car is worth 1sec a kilometre... give or take a bit around Bathurst, but there would be a big difference..

I think the biggest issue is that people dont stop to use there own mind. There are a few genuine members of the forum who are involved in motorsport, but even their posts can be biased or politically motivated. Do not take what you read as gospel.

I think they will be a great addition and put on a much better show when they are competing against other makes.

As you mentioned crash the lack of slicks will result in a very significant lap time difference.

Who's to say that the Mini Challenge Cars will not be scrutineered to ensure that they are not an outright contender? I'm sure the organisers know what they are doing. We will know more leter in the year when we are able to compare the times of the Mini Challenge when they race at the Bathurst 1000 as a support event. The long straights will affect them for sure.

I think that the 12 hour for Production cars should be just that.... a 12 hour for production cars.

Not custom spec rally cars, not custom built race cars that are loosely based on production cars, real production cars. Like the cars you can buy and road register from the showroom floor in Australia, with there few minor mods to turn them into production race cars that are eligible within the rules.

Those Mini's are a purpose built racecar, and should not even be considered. Whilst I am at it, niether should the RS EVO's or Spec C STi's. None of these mentioned cars are able to be road registered, and therefore should be ineligible in a production car event.

I also believe that even the salary cap of the cars should be $100k.

This 12 hour, and the production car championship should be all about the cars we regularly see the every day mum and dad drive to work or drop the kids off at school in.

I personally really like the event and wish that it continues to grow each and every year. I certainly will be at the Mount in February to enjoy the day's activities!

Spot on Bulldog, but as things stand at present that would probably attract a field of about 20 cars. Let's hope it grows into what you have suggested over the next few years.
By the way, the Holden Sportswaggon entered last year sort of jumped the gun on production status as to the best of my knowledge they were not available for sale until some time after te race. Still if we can encourage manufacturers to use the race as a way of introducing, testing and demonstrating new models that would be in the spirit of the event.

I agree Bulldog.

As usual, my complaint with the 12 hour is its move from Easter, and the lack of rotary engined production cars
