The car that i own is the Ford Grab car from Werner Schommers, he drove the car in 1976 in the DRM. At the end of the saison he exchange the car for a Group 2 from Zakspeed. Zakspeed build the car up to Gr.5 spec. to have a reserve-car for the Kyalami 1000 km race at the end of the year 1977 but the car never drove in Kyalami. Later the car stand for long time in a garage from Zak. In the year 2002 i buy the car together with my brother and rebuilt it to the Gr.5 spec. from 1977 how Zakspeed build it up.

This is the car in 1976 driven by W.Schommers

None , I believe RS1600 had trouble finding a cheap Cosworth BDG engine for sale.

so let me add up what u have said :

- the car started life as a GRAB grp2 car
- it then supposedly was converted by zakspeed to grp5
- then yet u converted it AGAIN to grp5 with your brother ?? why when zak had already done it ?
- on another thread ur saying you had to source the bodykit from south africa ? why if zakspeed provided it ?
- theres bits from the bodykit missing i.e. the rear spoiler is not complete nor are the rear fenders....why ?
- noone ever raced it as a grp5 car, so theres no history
- why is there no engine ?

it all doesnt make sense to me..... maybe u can shed some light and provide your VIN# ?

on the other hand i agree with littleant, it is a pretty car !!

Sorry Kurtiejjj the engine is on the way from the USA to us 2.0l BDG with Lucas slide throttle injection

@escosr.
we by the car as a naked steel body with dashpanel and rearaxle!
Than we take a look for the fenders where we came also to croix-bl. but mr.Weber is a little bit !! His son want too mutch money only to copy the fenders. So we by it in SA. They fit perfectly whith the fasteners to the original holes. At this time we have built the rear spoiler by ourself from alloy.
I say never raced in Kyalami, the car raced in the DRM 1976 an by a letter from Zakspeed they told us the car raced also by Zak in the DRM.
But in the moment i search by myself for pictures from our car.
Here the engine

By rs1600
so the escort look when we by it

Congratulations RS1600 with the BDG engine! Happily the lucas slide throttle injection was included, as that can get rather expensive to find..

How can you doubt the originality of rs1600's car, as he literary bought it from zakspeed. The brothers have done a stunning job and now with the BDG engine I can't wait to see it going again. Where by the way? Hill climbs perhaps?

Is there any chance rs1600 that you could tell us what your car was up to during the 1977 DRM season? Was it driven by Hahne perhaps?

rs1600:
congratulations for that rebuild, to take it up to the standard you have from what i can see above is real good work and good find that BDG, i am going for a YB turbo engine as this is a bit more reliable and cheaper to run.

kurtiejjj:
its not doubt, if you own 1 of them beasts you want to know as much history of each and every one of the 10. thats why i ask specific questions. especially the VIN is interesting as noone has figured out the zakspeed numbering system as of now, for example.

What i know in the moment is that the car was built up to Gr.5-spec. a few month before the race at the end of the season in Kyalami. I try to find a picture in that "outfit" since 2005.
We choose the Hahne-design because the number-1-Heyer-car is still here in Germany!

@escosracer
I have only 3 bulkhead-pictures, they all looked different!

It would be very interesting to see the book or the listing from the 10 Gr.5 escorts you spoke from in this tread .

About the VIN# : I have VIN-pictures from 5 Gr.5 cars that run here in Germany one of this numbers are from my car. Helmut Barth told me there is only a little "in German is Grundgedanke" in the VIN#.
cheers

Okay, That's clear then! Apart from its schommers/GRAB entry then, it hasn't been entered in the DRM in Gp5?

Ohhh I forgot to add, the Jenspeed car that was featured in the magazine has the same position air jacks as the pictures of the Sansui car above... so, conclusion, the Sansui car is now known as the Jenspeed car

so, we have

Name of owner....Discription..............................Condition...........Location

Gary's car..........??????????................................. rebuilt .............in NZ
rs1600's car........Spare car............................almost complete..... in Germany
Escosracer's Croix Blanche press car................. being rebuilt .........in England
Kurt's car..............????????..........................??????????............. in Holland
Jenspeed ..............Sansui car ....................... running ............... in Norway
MIAC (missing in action cars)

What cars are missing ?

Destroyed cars (race damaged or scrapped)
Spaceframed car No1

Hi Gary,

Great photos of the Sansui car, it is interesting to see the Front Upright Assy are the same as the items used in 72-73 Works Capris and Gp2 and Gp5 Zakspeed Escorts and Capris.
I attach photos of the new items I have recast from the original units of my car. These units are used in both "Centre Lock" and "4 Stud" setups

Also to clarify, my car in NZ, "Original" Zakspeed Escort, one of two Zakspeed Gp2 (Steel Cage) cars converted to Gp5 by Zakspeed at the start of the 77 season!!!!

The Uprights are the rebuilts from Gary (NZ) we rebuild the centerlookparts here in Germany from a Gr.2 Zak-Escort ( the same as Gr.5) together with a friend from us.
Here is a picture from the rear the front looks nearly the same but i have no picture in the moment.

Super toll RS1600, Herr Molnar's escort, still looks pretty much together. Seems like it has spend some time in the Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim.

I saw this and I thought of you!

I am not the seller, but thought it might appeal to someone with an interest in Zakspeed

Seller's also got one from the zak capri. I don't want to be the usual stingy Dutchman but 24.99 pounds is quite a hefty starting bid for a folded poster
