I like Symmons Plains - it has character, which is something a lot of other circuits the V8's race on don't have. It's challenging, it's unique, it's tight and it makes for great racing. The only issues I have are some of the safety aspects of the circuit, including the pitlane exit, the lefthand sand bank on the back straight and also the ridiculously small run-off at the hairpin - I can't believe there hasn't been a massive off there yet.

True. You wouldn't want race cars to hit anything hard, Those soft concrete barriers they have on street circuits are way preferable to tyre barriers and sand traps on road circuits.
I think Symmons Plains should not be part of the championship because it is too quick. It needs to have a Supercar average lap time around 1min 15s or more to make it more acceptable. Right now it is a bit like running a backyard race around the clotheslinie. |

Many people commented that they liked the last corner leading onto the start finish straight for the current track. I didn't lose it in my magnificent design - I cut and pasted it into the new section (third last corner of the new bit from memory...) I reckon the additions would make it a 1:15 second minimum lap time... It also gives us a better front straight and more pit garages. |

If Symmons is being threatened for safety issues, why isn't Bathurst?
couldn't be because the safety of Symmons Plains is just a public smokescreen for the real V8SA issue could it.....? |

I saw these races in the last day or two on Motors TV over here and I thought the track was let's say different but a great challenge, like a 1 mile oval in the States where it's all very tight and you're always in traffic. I think the problem lies with driving standards than with the track if anything. Yes, its narrow and bumpy but so what? It's the same for everyone.
I always had a bit of a soft spot for this track since years ago Jim Richards in the BMW and Peter Brock in the Commodore were running around side by side lap after lap - the BM quicker on the twisty bits, the Holden down the back straight. Great stuff! |
