Muller threatens to quit!!!
Autosport reports that Yvan Muller is threatening to quit the BTCC at the end of the year if the driving standards that were seen last year continue this year.
To me, he'll more than likely move on to the WTCC anyway, which I am slightly surprised he hasn't done yet. Would he be a big loss to the BTCC and Vauxhall ? |

Yes Muller is likely to move to the WTCC at some point given the opportunity. But his leaving would be a shame, and a bitter blow to the series, regardless of the reason.
As for driving standards, no comment. |

Muller says this every year.
He's on a good thing at Vauxhall and he knows it. And if you can't take it back, don't dish it out. |

The driving standards in the BTCC are bad enough to have allowed him to challenge for the title 4 years in a row, doesn't that prove that he's right?

I have to echo KB's post...
other than he's good for the championship as he fills the Alain Menu type that the BTCC always has |

He's been around a fair few years now and probably feels that he is more qualified than most to comment on driving standards. Have to say I felt more than a hint of a smile brewing when I read that. I wonder, did he keep a straight face when he said it? It will be a sad day when Yvan leaves the BTCC but at least JP will get first crack at the title : (There is a hint of a rueful smile as I type this last sentence btw)

I am surprised Vauxhall lets Mr Muller do his ice racing and the like for another brand of car.... that always seemed quite strange to me...
Perhaps thats how he supplements his income, well besides coming down here for the Sandown/Bathurst endurance races in V8Supercar (where he ran in a Ford last year...) |

I don't think Vauxhall has much commercial fear of Kia.
And as for the V8's...strange deal indeed, since the Triple Eight team run the Vauxhall Astra (GM partner Holden) in the BTCC, and the Betta Electrical Ford Falcon in the V8 Supercar series. It's more Muller driving for the same team than manufacturer in that instance - it's 888 that's doing the dirty running two rival makes. |

Sorry if this goes against what others are saying but if Muller leaves it will be no big loss. All he ever does is complain about other peoples driving when all too often his has been as bad (if not worse)

Muller is a great driver, but I agree he seems to whinge too much (and has taken out a few people in his time too) either put up or shut up.

We can't really afford to lose him in my opinion.
I'm not a fan of his at all, but judging by todays Media Day, we need Yvan along with JP |

Whether he whinges or not - you can't knock him as a driver and the BTCC would be a poorer place without him. He may be considered as someone who moans a lot about standards etc (and then naturally people/fans pick up on that), but he does have a great deal of support too. It is just that his fans tend to be less vociferous than others. I hope to see some more great battles with him and JP this coming season. Can't wait for Donington

He's a great driver, that's why he was 2003 Champion. I would be sad to see him go, but I think all of this was souwer grapes as he lost out on the championship by a single point.
He should be concentrating on the new season a head. However his statement did have a point, however IMO, not as big as he made out. Last edited by luke; 1 Apr 2005 at 20:08. |
