Your DREAM road car ?

If you could have any road legal car, price and running costs not important, what would it be ?

1929 Bentley 4.5 litre Tourer. Black coachwork by Vanden Plas, red leather interior.

And for the days when the Bentley seems just that little bit slow, my spare cars would be

1970 Lamborghini Muira SV in red
1987 Aston Martin V8 Vantage in dark grey
1966 Jaguar E Type 4.2 Coupe in dark blue
1968 Iso Grifo 365GT in black

We would probably buy a Volvo V70.

And the moment we realised money wasn't an issue, we would start thinking about trading it in for a Mercedes station.

And as soon as we realised money really wasn't an issue, we would keep the Volvo and buy the Mercedes station as a second car.

And as soon as we realised it's not necissary to have a station as a second car, we would buy a normal Mercedes as a third car.

Not sure it exists- a four-seat convertable with a huge boot, great towing capability from a big V8, rear wheel drive, dosn't have to be fast but must be a fun drive, have no computers, must corner like it's on rails, must be comfortable but not wallowy, must look like it'll run you down while it's standing still and sound like a Cobra and - this is the tricky bit- must last for at least 30 years without replacing major componants!

I'l keep dreaming!

I must admit that I am too much of a realist at my advanced age now to REALLY dream about a "price is no object" question, so how about a Subaru WRX? Not out there in "never never "land in terms of cost and running etc, but looks like damn fun in summer AND winter.

It's the sound that isn't satisfying though. Ever since I was a kid, I just loved the sound of an inline six, and like Tim, I had a real softspot for the E-Type.

Now speaking of "price no object" I recently saw a "Top Gear" episode, probably very old for you chaps, where they spoke with people who had paid for "personalized" license plates. There was a fellow-and I'm not making this up--who had finally been able to afford to buy a new Aston Martin. He then paid 75,000 pounds for a plate that was A5TON ( or something like that) 75000!!!!! FOR THE BLOODY LICENSE PLATE!!!!!! This is over 150,000 Canadian dollars, more than my house cost!

Talk about money being no object! I'd take a WRX, an aluminum bodied RX-7, a mint E-type (six , not the twelve) and probably still have change left over to take one of those racing school courses.

I'm lucky to own the greatest small car ever - a 308 GTS

We took a run over the weekend and its just the best

I have owned a Grifo and it was brilliant on motorways - in town you could not breathe - it was quite a groove at Goodwood too - also in town a simple tee junction was a massive undertaking cos the turning circle was ****

I wanted it to try to get a big US v8 out of my system - no chance

Me & mtpanaorama - there is only the gt40 - nothing else matters

Unless I can steal the road going Porsche 917 built for Count Martini.....

'Bottle, I've said it before, I'll say it again - you need a 1972-1987 Mercedes Benz SL. And buy it quickly, because Baby Bottle will be too big for the rear occasional-seat by the time she's 10.

The upcoming Maserati GT 4.2 V8.

Or a Ferrari F550.

Or a F360.

Or the GTA version of the Alfa GTV.

Or the Aston Martin Vanquish.

Or the upcoming Audi S4 coupe.

Or a BMW M3.

Or a Jag XKR.

Or a Lotus Elise.

Or a Merc SLR.

Or a Merc SL55 AMG.

Or a Boxster S.

Or a 911 Turbo.

I'm not fussy!
I'd probably choose the Maserati though.

With the best will in the world - I couldn't proclaim that any V8 Bentley corners without wallowing!

Tim, if you want your Bentley to go around corners then give them a few hundred thousand dollars and they'll fix it for you so it will.
