Well done Olivera.

I view this similar to Parente - it's his millionth season in F3 - he had to win.

I don't follow this comparison at all. Parente is still not quite 20. It is simply that he has chosen to stay in F3 throughout his formative years, rather than progress through the junior formulae.

Regardless of that, congratulations to de Oliveira.

No shame to JP for his long stay ; after all he's maybe the only real paid driver in the world of F3.

If you don't have any reliable perspectives in other series, and you cannot count on a big financial support, that's the most intelligent choice.

Oliveira.
A name we certainly should clap our hands for.
No money, no support, no manager...no nothing.
BUT ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL, ****ING GOOD DRIVER.
It maybe be his one millionth season in F3 as you guys said, but let me remind you.
1999. Champion in Southamerican F3 B class
2000. 2nd in Southamerican F3 champiosnhip. (beaten by the only 2000 chassi on the grid, from Vitor Meira. All the rest had 94's)
2001. 7th in German F3 with Swiss Racing team. Achieved their only victory so far winning the F1 support race at hockenheim.
2002. Abandoned German F3 while he was lying 3rd in the series driving for Kolles, who run Jamie Green later that year with no results whatsoever.
2003. Champion German F3 13 victories.
2004. 2nd in Japanese F3 driving a Dome chassis, best non dallara result in a major F3 championship.
2005. Champion Japanese F3 for tom's dallara.

He may be doing his 6th or 7th season, but he does kick some serious asses.
No money to go further, so i guess we will have to see more young talents beeing beaten by him in F3.

Convincing argument, John.

I don't agree with automatically knocking a driver's success because they've been in a formula for a long time. De Oliveira's always been on my radar, and I hope he does get the chance to impress in a decent team in something higher up the ladder... though it may make sense for him to remain in Japan and earn some good money.

Surely Toyota must look on de Oliveira as a strong Formula Nippon driver for 2006, especially as they will be supplying engines to some teams?

Yeah, I believe Oliveira is a card on toyota's hands for the future.
As it happened to James Courtney I don't believe that winning the Japan F3 could lead Oliveira to F1, however he must have a drive in GT or Formula Nippon next year making some good money.

de Oliveira was quoted in this week's Autosport: "I will test for a couple of Toyota teams next week. I'm not sure what team it will be for yet, but for sure the plan is to do Nippon and GTs next year."

In Japan there are strong rumours that Tom's will be entering the Formula Nippon next year and that Oliveira and Courtney are topping the list.
