Yes, it's good for him, but would be better if he signed on to one of the other small Ford teams that have been somewhat competitive. There are plenty in Cup right now.

Perhaps, but does he have some deals to race some NW races, too. Seat time in a Cup car and running NW/trucks the same weekend is good no matter what, IMO.

Charlotte Observer confirms that Bobby Labonte will return to JTG-Daugherty as expected. Announcement Saturday. Kingsford and friends will be back to sponsor. Only think not known at this point is which team they will be aligned with...but I have to wonder if it could be anything other than a Toyota, Waltrip or otherwise. Why? Toyota Racing's official Twitter had a Tweet about a contest where fans would win a grilling experience with Labonte and JTG-Daugherty in March 2012 (Las Vegas, I think). Would be an odd promotion if Labonte's in a Chevrolet, you might think.

Oh jeez.....remember Kevin Conway? He says he's going to run a full 2012 schedule in Cup. No word yet on which team, but I'm thinking it will be for Joe Nemechek's second car, the #97. It's going to mean nothing if he can't make the races, because we all know how slow he is.

So, Mark Martin is moving to the #00 next year for a partial basis. The article isn't clear...is Reutimann out, or splitting the seat with Martin? Waltrip is also running the restrictor plate races, but also in the 00 or a part time ride? Hmm.....

The situation at MWR appears to be heading on a predictable downward spiral. It looks like they will only be running two full programmes next year, the #15 for Bowyer and the #56 for Truex Jr. Poor David Reutimann, whose only crime is to be ten years too old, loses his seat to thrusting young charger.... Mark Martin! Except it looks like Michael Waltrip takes the #00 seat for the plate races, unless he runs those as the #55, and even then, the #00 may not run all 36 races.

How many races will the entire MWR corps win next year? I predict none, and serve them, and particularly Clint Bowyer, right too!

Red Bull, I know they're gone next year, so why field a Cup ride for Whitt? Are they planning something with him regardless next year?

Cole Whitt to attempt Cup race at Phoenix: Cole Whitt hopes to make his Sprint Cup debut at Phoenix International Raceway next weekend. Red Bull Racing will field a third Toyota for the 20-year-old Alpine, Cal.-native, who currently drives the #60 Silverado for Stacy Compton in the Camping World Truck Series. He will likely attempt to qualify the #84. In his first full season on the truck tour, Whitt has two top-fives, 11 top 10s and is ninth in the point standings after 23 races. His best finish this season was second at Dover in the spring. Now just heard that Reutimann will not return to MWR. Those Aaron's commercials, annoying or not, will never be the same. Mark Martin to drive the #00 for 30 races, Waltrip probably doing the RP tracks, I wonder who takes the other two races.

Dammit! No! This fell through at the last minute.

UPDATE 2:The all-but-done deal to bring the Camping World Truck Series to Road America next season is done, but not in that way. Done, as in over. NASCAR and the track had hoped to package the truck race with the Nationwide Series and Grand Am on the weekend of June 23-24. The hangup? TV. Because of other commitments by NASCAR's television partners, a truck race couldn't be scheduled for that Sunday, Bruggenthies said. Grand Am and Nationwide are committed for Saturday. The other option was Friday, but to run an afternoon race on a traditional work day would not have made sense economically. Although the trucks often race on Fridays, those are nighttime events at tracks with lights. "We're all disappointed," Bruggenthies [track President] said. "You know what? UPDATE 3: Michael Waltrip Racing announced it has hired Mark Martin to share in driving duties of the #00 Toyota and extended its 30-race sponsorship with Aaron's, Inc. through the 2013 Sprint Cup season. Martin will drive in 25 Sprint Cup events each of the next two seasons, sharing the #00 Aaron's Dream Machine with Michael Waltrip, who will drive five events with Aaron's sponsorship. Martin will join Martin Truex Jr. and recently acquired Clint Bowyer in the MWR stable next season. Martin will begin his tenure with MWR at the 2012 Daytona 500. Waltrip will run the remaining restrictor plate races plus the race in his home state of Kentucky. MWR plans to run a combination of drivers and sponsor partners to fill the remaining races when Martin and Waltrip are not behind the wheel.(MWR)(11-4-2011)
