Who is participating in Classic Thunder this year and in what type of car?

What is eligible this year as I have heard there have been some changes.

I think regs for this are very similar to the old mod saloon regs, not such wide wheels as those in the mod saloons,for years these regs where in the blue book.Classic Saloon Car Club,can't remember their new name,have regs on their web site.It would mean you could run a car with fibre glass panels/perspex windows,lots of mods to engine etc.,shell of original car must remain as original and engine must the correct engine from that type of car,built before whatever the cut off date is.Mod-Saloon was a big class in its day,fullgrids and reserves,races at the super prix in Brum,support to F3 and Touring cars etc

This is an extract from the regs. Hope it helps.

The new name is CTCRC Classic Touring Car Racing Club.

5.2.1 "Classic Thunder Touring Cars" are 4 seater saloon cars based on a standard steel production shell which were marketed before 1st January 1990 or were homologated by F.I.A. for competition in Group N, Group A, Group 1 or Group 2 category before 1st January 1990. All cars are subject to approval by the CTCRC Committee. Cars not complying with this criteria may be eligible subject to CTCRC Committee approval. Cars complying with CTCRC Historic Touring Car, Post Historic Touring Car and Classic Group One Touring Car regulations are also eligible in the Production Based classes.

The responsibility to prove eligibility is that of the entrant at all times. All entrants must produce HVIF/Homologation papers stamped by the ASN where issued for that vehicle. Where no such paperwork is available, the entrant must produce written confirmation from the CTCRC Committee as to the permitted specification of the vehicle in question.

5.2.2 Cars will run in six classes,

Class A Modified Production 2,901cc and over
Class B Modified Production 2,001cc to 2,900cc
Class C Modified Production 1,501cc to 2,000cc
Class D Modified Production up to 1,500cc
Class E Production Based 1,951cc and over
Class F Production Based up to 1,950cc

Thanks guys. Saw them last year with an absolutely awesome Capri, is it more of the same this year with the Capris and Rovers etc.?

As far as I know it will be.

There are a couple of GAA engined Capris and I know of at least one other which is still for sale but I don't have the cash unfortunately.

The pre 90 cars are also eligible so we can expect to see some Sierra Cossies too.

Hi Carrera, well I will be there again (fingers crossed) in a Rover SD1 V8S, there are normally 3 or 4 Rovers mainly Vitesses ranging from 3.9 to 5 litres the aforementioned Capris 3.4 to 4 litres, a Batmobile and 2002T, a couple of Mk2 Escorts (RS1800-RS2000), Anglias, Minis and Lotus Cortinas, XJS, we have also seen a Starion Turbo and a lovely Mk 1 Escort to name but a few. We used to get Camaros and Mustangs but they have sadly disappeared, they'll also be a Lotus Sunbeam this year (I know coz its my old car). Classes E+F should give us the Sierra Cosworths, M3's,Supra turbos and any other ex pre 90 cars. So overall a good mixture and hopefully some cars from the other CTCRC championships will turnout and the grids will improve over last year.
What Vaughan and Peter say is spot on, perspex windows, fibreglass wings, bootlid and bonnet,dry sumped,slicks,totally stripped interiors save seat steering wheel and rev counter etc etc - but you must use a block recognisable as from the original model type, you can't run a 3.0l V6 Escort for example. I have a Tuscan 4.5l V8 in my Rover and there's nothing to say you can't run a 6 litre Rover V8.(I'm saving!!-gotta try and catch those damn Capris)
