Cheap Testing venue close to Upminster

I need to find somewhere to test my engine for an hour or so but need somewhere close to Upminster by Dartford. Anyone have any ideas?

Lydden is full until sept and the only other I know about is Snetterton but a good 2 hours away

Maybe they'd let you drive around the Essex arena? otherwise Brands? Or maybe 1 of the kart tracks, Rye House, Buckmore?

there was previous thread some time ago which mentioned an airfield near Braintree which was something like £25/2 hours to run up and down on a Saturday morning.

Now that's more like it, cheers. At North Weald you apparently need £10 million worth of ionsurance cover or you have to find someone that has a licence to use the track (a no. of companies but all want to do tuition with it).

Braintree sounds ideal, anybody have any more info?
