@Japanese Samurai

Wow, that very surprising , because last year they in last position in the team standing and they are C- seeded team.

So its the good decision, plus Car Tokai Dream has the relationship with Honda much like Dome.

NOB Taniguchi (#0) complains that mother chassis car is too quick.
He says that #18 or #25 will be the champion if BoP doesn't work.
It is an annual event that he complains to JAF-GT.

Is Taniguchi-san scared that Mother Chassis and/or JAF-GT300 cars will beat their Mercedes-Benz AMG GT car? This is hilarious!

A little bit of "pro-wrasslin'" to get the crowd riled up - that said, the Upgarage 86 did a 1:55 on Saturday, which if I'm not mistaken obliterates the "official" GT300 lap record at Suzuka.

Those cars are really GT500 lites imo. That big Nissan engine probably helps too! The Subaru needs a little more power to keep up too.

As you said he does this every year but hey there’s no one better to drive around BOP.

I’d be highly surprised if he didn’t complain seeing as though he seems to do it every year lol

Kota Sera is reporting annual "Motorsport technology and culture" seminar.
This year's theme was "Challenge to the top! Latest technology which supports the speed."
One of lectures were on Yokohama's GT500 side fin tire.

Yokohama introduced that tire to the race in 2017.
Team Bandoh and Kondo had used in the actual race.
Team Mugen had used in the test.

Fin tire has a 3mm highet of fin on outside of sidewall.

When this fin rotates while running, on the upper side where the relative speed with the air flow becomes larger, it breaks the vortex flowing out of the wheel house, which has the effect of reducing air drag.

On the other hand, at the lower side where the relative speed with the air flow becomes smaller, the air flowing out of the wheel house is discharged to the outside. As a result, the air flow of the splitter (front under panel) is urged to reduce the lift effect.

In short, the downforce increases, so cornering speed increases compared to normal tires.
In fact, drivers had an impression that he felt a more grip feeling.

Q. What do you do with the clutch when you spun?
A. Yeah. I have been worried about it since I first drove a SGT car, but I don't know that because I have never spun yet. I will ask it someone tomorrow.

At least #30 Toyota Prius will be able to use the hybrid system in Thailand instead of being saddled with 73kg handicap.
As far as I know, the hybrid system based on lithium-ion battery isn't allowed in shipping.

It is surprising that Honda had introduced pre-chamber tech to SGT since last year.
That's because it is just after Honda introduced that technology to F1 (May 2017?).
Perhaps the pre-chamber tech was adopted from the second fresh engine.

A quick clarifying question - there's two big forms of pre-chamber technology floating about in Formula 1: Turbulent Jet Ignition (TJI) and Homogenous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI). From the standpoint of an absolute engineering novice, TJI is what most of the F1 manufacturers seem to be using now, HCCI is what they want to work towards.

Which one is Lexus and Honda using, and which is Nissan using - if either?

Good article on the sandbagging too. The writer thinks that record laps will be a given this year. It seems like the Lexus is very strong again based on the corner speeds he reported.

Of course, Turbulent Jet Ignition (TJI).
(However, in this article, there is a mistake that in F1 multiple injectors per cylinder are allowed.)
And Nissan uses a special spark plug in which the pre-chamber is integrated. Autosport says "Pre-chamber (spark) plugs."
On the other hand, Honda and Lexus have pre-chamber in engine itself.

Team Mach will compete at this season under name "Mach Shaken MC86 Y's Distraction" with drivers Natsu Sakaguchi & Yuya Hiraki (rookie).

Yuya Hiraki previously competed in Super Taikyu (ST-3 class), Formula 4 and 86/BRZ Race (professional series).

Autosport web reports inside of GT500 Lexus squad.
http://www.as-web.jp/supergt/351314?all

*It seems that the Lexus squad (BS user) is split in light and dark.
Good: LeMans (#6)
So-so: Tom's (#36, #37), Cerumo (#38)
Bad: SARD (#39)
*One of the factors is the new BS tire which has new structure.
Rear grip is better than that of front, so it becomes understeering.
*Another factor is deterioration of the front splitter.
It interferes with the road surface and it is shaved and becomes understeering.
If the front splitter is replaced with a new one, its symptoms will be improved.

That’s a great idea. I’ve watched a couple of eps of Buttons vlog where he goes to Japan for testing and the Tokyo Auto Show and I find them quite interesting to watch. He’s a good presenter.

Any reactions to testing? GT500 looks like it'll be much closer at the start of the season than in 2017.
