TSR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Who will be 1st to go

I know I will cope abit over this, but who will be the first v8 driver to loose his drive in 2009. Will it be Tim Slade or Micheal Patrizi?. Will they last the season?.

It'll be the first one whose damage bill exceeds their ego (and chequebook), or the first one whose big sponsor cries "economic crisis".

Greg Murphy will be the first to go when he keeps getting flogged by his team mate :-)

Bit of a long shot (considering the size of the ego) but courtney should be it!

Caruso is my guess. Garry's never been backwards in putting people off. If not Caruso it'll be Slade. Morris will say how he could do a better job himself etc if Slade causes a bit stack!!

I agree, Morris could cause a bigger stack than anyone in the field.

As has been stated with the majority of the field (or their fathers) buying rides I dont think you will see any of these drivers being dropped.

The lunatic Rogers would have to be odds on favourite to have a brain snap and sack one of his drivers.

If Gary Rogers is a lunatic, then why has Canto not been picked up by Sprint Gas or SBR or PCR? All three signed new drivers for 09.

Give the Herald a call, sooner or later they will need to replace McKay…
I think Garry's handling of the situation with Canto could have been different, and many would agree so, but when you look back at what Canto did, he did exactly set the world on fire with his results.

No GTR, Auslec is not on the GRM machines any more.

I would say Caruso would be the next bloke under the spot light in all honesty. Regardless of whether he bought sponsor dollars with him or not, if he doesn't start showing results this year, that could be the end of him at GRM.

I think the first might be Jonny Ried. Favourite of the TKR team and drove the car at the Queensland test last Wednesday, depending on the resolution of the ownership wrangle he might not even get to start a race.

Not sacked, but the thread says '1st to go', not '1st to be sacked'.

if TKR are using 5 drivers then surely Dean Fiore will be first gone.

If it's Dean Fiore driving then surely it would be Dean Fiore Racing not Team Kiwi? He is angling to be owner not driver I thought.

With reference to the GRM situation. Leethal is obviously pretty safe.
As for Robbo, he showed glimpses of what he can do last year. He was awesome in Hamilton, backed-up Leethal beautifally at PI and Bathurst and finished the year in solid fashion at Oran Park. Yes, he will have to be more consistent and within the Top 15-20 on a regular basis (something which I think he is very much capable of), but Robbo impressed a lot of people last year, including Garry. 2009 will be make-or-break, no doubt. If his late season form of 2008 continues into 2009 he will keep his seat until year's end.
One thing that Robbo has over Canto is his ability to keep the car on the circuit on a much more regular basis.

If Holdsworth is pulling in top 5-10, then Caruso needs to go top 10-15 this season to prove that he's worthy of a seat (which will eliminate the $$ arguments). However if you have the same equipment as your team mate and he is running top 10 and you are +20, then there is a problem.

Having said that, I doubt anyone will get the chop solely based on the problem of sacking a driver who could pull sponsor $$ from the team. There isn't much $$ out there so teams can't be too picky at the moment.

Canto didn't keep the car on the track as much as Caruso because he had sh!t engines and had to drive the ass off the car. The WP engines would've helped Canto but he didn't get the opportunity - that's racing - sponsors like their product on the track and owners like packing a clean car away at the end of a meet. However he did pretty well keeping the Howard Racing car on the track and up the front and likewise with the DJR dev drive before the GRM stint - hmm co-incidence?.

Deane gone, no he is driving, Johnny Reed was first to go, with out a wheel being tunred in anger. TKR - Johhny reed to drive,

Reality: PMM to enter 021 - Dean Fiore to drive

Caruso didn't get a WP engine for his Commodore until midway through the 08 season. So in fact, Caruso had the same equipment underneath him, powerwise, as Canto had had in 07. I admit the timing of Canto's departure was poor management by Mr Rogers, but the actual decision was not. Although I like Dean as an approachable young racing driver, he just didn't do the job for mine. Bathurst 07 was a very poor mistake by Canto, power disadvantage or not.
Also, poor equipment is not a valid reason to throw a car off the road on a regular basis. As a GRM supporter, the sight of #34 on the grass at just about every race meeting in 2007 was a disappointing sight to say the least.
