Fantastic pictures guys, many thanks. The photo of Trevors car is so good as it clearly shows an original un-modified Mk6 model - a rare find these days.

I was hoping you wouldn't ask about the date! I made several trips to Calder (from New Zealand) in the space of two or three years and can't recall at which meeting that one was taken. I'll do some digging and let you know.

Re the Calder pic,the red car is either Sheads or Sampson,the guy on the green car is Peter Macrow.Also for your interest,the chap smiling in the background behind the red Mk6 is Graham Crawford,Australia F2 (BIRRANA) champion.

Yes, having checked now, Macrow drove the green car, Shead the other one.
Date of this Calder meeting was 6 August 1978.

I stand corrected, should have checked my own research - the red car is Brian Shead's (#58) and the green car is Peter Macrow (#25). The MI and Speco signage threw me - wrongly assumed the green car was Brian Sampson's (his race #, 78).

The photo could be dated from 1976 to 1979 (the Mk6 period), as Brian Shead only raced once in 1980 before retiring & selling his new (only raced once #701) Mk7 to Peter Macrow. This car (#701) is now owned by Terry Robertson.

MK 6

I am interested in what period this pictured MK6 represents,especially wheels,air box and rear wing.It is very different from the F3 Corolla1300 i once owned.

G'day Allen

I've been away and have only just read your message.
No I have nothing further at this stage, other than a short contact with Brian Shead

He advised that,
" 63-1 was his own car and began life as a Mk 6 witha Corolla engine in January of 1976. It was converted to AF2 with Celica engine and bigger brakes in 1977."

I sent hiom photos of the car to assist recognition and his reply to me was that the photos seemed to support the facts that I had gathered to that point.

This would seem to confirm the identity of the car I was looking at (am looking at when I sell off a few other projects) as being 63-1. At least well enough to take the search further.

This may help "Spook" as well.

Spook, i'll find out for you, Chris is racing it at the Island, i know Eric Mills had it from the mid 80s and then Chris raced it again at Sandown in 87. Peter Beehag had Chris's Mk7 Cheetah if i recall correctly and it had a different nose on it. The Mk7 was also in the Martini type livery...
