Tyre warming

Just seen a big thing about this on Pistonheads, but it seemed to be specifically for drag racing and speed events.

But tyre warming to heat the surface of the tyre also happens in rallycross in most classes.

And it has been banned by the MSA. And kind of action that pre warms a tyre has been banned.

No idea if this affects rallycross.

From what I've seen of it it just seems to be another poorly worded regulation from the MSA - you can't do anything to 'abnormally raise' the temperature of the tyre above ambient temperature - that's so loose it may as well not be written down. So tyre warmers would in theory be a no - but if you 'normally' use them then surely you're not 'abnormally' raising the temperature - you're 'normally' raising the temperature.

I know, it's hilarious

As I said, they already had to release and amendment due to drag racing, and I doubn anyone there has ever been to watch rallycross so will have no idea about tyre warming there.

That is exactly why it was banned in speed events I am afraid, for exactly that reason

Less of an issue in rallycross because at speed events often the paddock and crossovers and people are stood fairly close to the cars as they approach the start line. So when they spin tyres there are people close by behind the car.

And something like a 600hp Gould warming its tyres up can chuck grit and stones quite far and at quite some speed,

Imagine being stood behind a rallycross car 10 metres away when it does a warm up start.

To be fair the marshals at Lydden quite often get pebble dashed by cars on the loose anyway! What's a few more stones?
