I'm sure we've seen a few LMP3 teams mention an entry in this amongst announcements elsewhere? But haven't seen anything specifically announced for this

Your point is true but I think the Asian market is able to take more series, only ASLMS, Super Gt, and Gt Asia at the moment.

I think there is space for this series, especially as it's only a short one.

However, that clearly isn't reflected in entries currently... So maybe I'm wrong

Too many eggs in basket means micro effect.

8 Years ago, ACO Realm
LM24

5 Years ago, ACO Realm

ILMC

Now in ACO realm
LM24
WEC
ELMS
MGT3CUP
IMSA
ASLMS
ASLMS-Sprint

And even with more garages at LM the chances of getting in are getting slimmer due to the million entryways, no wonder the micro effect is spreading!

It's a good idea, it allows Asian teams to justify the purchase of p3s given the Asian le mans series is only 4 rounds.

R1 Entry

05x LMP3 (2x ADESS-03, 2x Onroak-"Ligier" JSP3, 1x Ginetta)
03x CN (2x Wolf GB08, 1x Onroak-"Ligier" JS53)
04x GT-CUP (2x Lotus Evora, 1x Lotus Exige, 1x Porsche Cup)
= Micro 12x

This series has more variety in LMP3 than the LM support race has, lol I guess Dome and Norma will find home in Asia...

Only 10 of the 12 entries actually turned up, and of them one of was a non-starter, so 9 cars got the flag for race 1. Shockingly enough, ADESS and Ginetta appear to be "fine" for these hour long sprint races at least, as they were within a lap of the winning Onroak LMP3, and on overall podium. Both ADESS and Ginetta even lead the race on laps 1 (ADESS) and 2-17 (Ginetta), before the "Ligier" taking over

Jez, 9 is really not much for a multi class race...

Also, I'm surprised if the Ginetta and Adess nearly went a lap down over just one hour.

Surely that's not great form, for primarily endurance cars...

9 is terrible but not as terrible as ASLMS used to got (6-8)

The Ginetta led most of the race so they probably had problem in their pit stop to fall lap down

"Ligier"-"Ligier"-ADESS in the second race and again only 9 starters, 8 of which finished. Nobody has reported or cared for this - including the series - so I had to give very specific googling parameters to even find out it had happened.

Too true Juntos! Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup is an expensive joke.

Nothing wrong with the original idea - to bring new drivers and money in to Le Mans-style racing by pairing quick young (FIA Silver) drivers with slower gentlemen (FIA Bronze) drivers. The rules say seasoned pros (FIA Gold and Platinum) are banned and every driver pairing must include a Bronze driver. Fair enough.

Trouble is, somewhere along the line, the ACO decided it would also be a good idea to let Silver drivers race solo - these are only 1 hour sprints remember - putting the Silver/Bronze pairings at a huge disadvantage.

Then when WINEURASIA Motorsport rocked up at Sepang last weekend with two quick Silver drivers and one LMP3 car, the ACO trashed the rules and let them race - with predictable results. Aidan Read and Matthew Solomon easily ‘won’ both races and already have a virtually unassailable championship lead.

Don’t suppose the legitimate Bronze/Silver drivers from Nexus Infinity, PRT Racing and DC Racing - or their sponsors - are too happy about that!

Read's silver rating was as surprising to him and the team as to anyone else and they were only made aware of that eating days before the event, so it wasn't possible to change the driver lineup, thus the aco allowing them to race. Given Read's experience he's definitely not a silver which is why it was surprising. Apparently in future they'll be adding pit stop times to dual silver line-ups.

Hey Ospi, my apologies if Aidan and his team are friends of yours - but I am impartial and I don’t agree that WinEurasia should have been allowed to run two quick young Silver drivers in a Bronze/Silver championship - rules are rules and only fair if applied to everyone.

Should the FIA have given Read and his team more notice? Probably, but screwing every other LMP3 team doesn’t put that right. They could have run Solomon and Read solo in each race and gained an advantage without breaking the rules.

Should the FIA have categorized Aidan Read as Silver? You bet they should. All the other young drivers in this series are Silver and Read is the quickest! The best times recorded by the other drivers over the Sepang weekend ranged from 2:00.686 - 2:03.212 (Silver) and 2:03.244 - 2:07.232 (Bronze). Aidan Read’s best lap was 1:59.925.

The ACO hasn’t just screwed the other teams here, it has screwed one of it’s sacred ‘Le Mans’ championships. Expect an even more pathetic grid at Round 2!

I don't feel that the wineurasia lineup was overly unfair when yoi consider that the dc car had Winslow who's done multiple le man 24 hours and set pole against gold and platinum rated drivers in p2 cars and koutsamedies who has done many prototype racers matching silver drivers. There's no way that's a silver and bronze pairing with read also being silver. So to me it also shows flaws in the rating system.

We agree on one thing Ospi, the FIA Driver Categorization system is flawed. Pointless even!

But that doesn’t change the fact that the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup rules say driver pairings must be Bronze/Silver according to the latest FIA Driver Categorization list. Aidan Read is as worthy of his Silver rating as any of the other young Silver drivers in last week’s Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup event and shouldn’t have been allowed to share the WinEurasia LMP3 with Matthew Solomon - or any other Silver driver.

You say the WinEurasia driver line-up wasn’t “overly unfair”. What does that mean?

Taking car performance out of the equation, the best race lap by a Bronze LMP3 driver was 2.922 seconds slower than his Silver team mate. Aidan Read’s best lap was just 0.158 seconds slower than Matthew Solomon. That’s an unfair advantage of 2.764 seconds per lap over the best Bronze driver! The entirely predictable results speak for themselves.

Teams, drivers and sponsors spend a fortune on this series and have every right to expect a level playing field and credible enforcement of the rules.
